Halle Berry recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her latest movie, Never Let Go, expressing her delight in portraying such a powerful character. In her conversation, she revealed they filmed in a remote woodland location, discovering a house that perfectly suited their needs. She added that this isolated environment, surrounded by trees, offered a captivating, almost ethereal quality during daytime shoots due to the way sunlight filtered through the foliage, lending an enchanting, fairy tale-like ambiance to the movie.
During the night filming, the actress from Moonfall explained that the location turned out to be particularly “frightening” due to unfamiliar noises. She admitted she had no idea what kind of animals were making those sounds. She also disclosed that there were bears in the vicinity, and they always had bear spray at hand since the bears often strayed onto the set, happening “numerous times.
In this fresh psychological thriller/horror, an ominous presence gradually invades the world beyond their home, leaving a mother (portrayed by Berry) and her twin sons with nothing but their residence and familial ties as a safeguard. They repeatedly emphasize to each other to ‘never let go’ and are in constant communication, even resorting to using ropes to keep themselves attached. However, when one of the boys questions the existence of this evil, their connections disintegrate, leading to a nerve-wracking and heart-pounding battle for survival that promises to keep viewers gripped.
Berry also mentioned that the eerie ambiance of the setting significantly influenced their acting, stating that they felt compelled to embody both the awe and terror that surrounded them to truly bring their characters to life. She pointed out that in this movie, the forest emerged as a character on its own.
In simpler terms, Halle Berry mentioned that she enjoys portraying powerful, nurturing mother characters because they feel authentic to her. She also pointed out that this specific role gave her an opportunity to delve into the more complex and intense aspects of a strong maternal figure.
Actress from the show “The Kings” shared that her character is dealing with intergenerational wounds and trying to act as a nurturing and protective figure, similar to a mama bear. Berry also mentioned that she found this dynamic to be intriguing and worth exploring.
Meanwhile, Never Let Go will be released in theaters on September 20, 2024.
