The film is a funny, fast-paced story about a group of shoplifters called the Velvet Gang who set their sights on a powerful and unkind fashion boss played by Moore. The idea for the movie came from a 2006 song by the director’s band, The Coup, which described a “booster” as someone who steals from stores and sells the items on the street at very low prices.
This premiere comes at a great time for Moore, who recently received critical acclaim for her intense performance in the 2024 horror film The Substance. She was even nominated for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars for that role, but ultimately lost to Mikey Madison, who won for Anora.
