Snoop Dogg gives his take on the Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl controversy

As a seasoned gamer with decades of hip-hop and sports history under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when reminiscing about the NFL’s relationship with hip-hop, particularly 15 years ago. Back then, it was like watching a game without the final score – the anticipation was everything!

Prior to the headlines about Diddy’s sex trafficking arrest dominating hip-hop news, Kendrick Lamar‘s upcoming performance at Super Bowl LIX was a hot topic. Last week, the rapper from Compton announced on Instagram that he would be performing during the halftime show, but there were debates suggesting that Lil Wayne should perform instead as the event will be held in his hometown of New Orleans.

Recently, Snoop Dogg has joined the conversation about the ongoing issue, following statements from artists such as Cam’ron, Boosie Badazz, Nicki Minaj, and Birdman who expressed their desire for Lil Wayne to secure the position. Many have also pointed fingers at Jay-Z, as he holds the ultimate decision-making power regarding the performers.

Snoop expressed on Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco’s Nightcap show that he doesn’t have a clear opinion but wants to remind everyone where the NFL was 15 years ago regarding hip-hop. He questioned how many hip-hop artists were allowed on that stage 15 years ago, suggesting that there has been progress in terms of acceptance. He acknowledged understanding both perspectives and people’s feelings about the subject.

He stated, “I didn’t express an opinion or provide a response because I joined him on stage through Dr. Dre. I didn’t perform any Snoop Dogg tracks. Instead, I assisted Dr. Dre, and the experience turned out to be a memorable moment for everyone involved.

Remember where the NFL was 15 years ago when it comes to hip-hop.

Previously, Lil Wayne openly discussed his disappointment at not performing during the halftime show, explaining that he felt particularly let down as he had believed Jay-Z would choose him for the event.

To begin with, I apologize for the tardiness, but I needed to gather my resolve so as not to falter in my task. I want to express gratitude to each voice, every opinion, all the care, love, and support that’s been extended. Your words served as supportive arms, catching me when I felt like giving up.

Wayne expressed that the situation caused him significant pain. He’s sure you understand his feelings since it was quite painful. In fact, it felt incredibly painful to him. He admits he didn’t psychologically prepare himself for disappointment and unconsciously assumed this outcome, which he now regrets. So, he blames himself for not being mentally ready. However, he still believes there was no better place or stage for him in his city, so the pain was immense. It hurt immensely.
