Over the last ten years, many popular horror movie franchises have been successfully adapted into TV series. Titles like The Exorcist, Psycho, Scream, and Interview with the Vampire have all made the jump to television, and some have even returned to theaters with mixed results. Recently, HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry was a major hit, and we at TopMob particularly enjoyed it. Now, the executive producer of that series, Brad Caleb Kane, is developing another horror TV show called Crystal Lake, and Bloody Disgusting has a first look.
The new series is set in the world of Friday the 13th, but it will be more of a retelling of the very first movie. If you remember the original 1980 film, you’ll know the killer wasn’t the iconic figure with the hockey mask we see in later movies. Linda Cardellini (known for Dead to Me) will play Pamela Voorhees, a mother who sacrificed her dreams of being a singer to care for her son, Jason, and whose life takes a tragic turn when he dies.
Looking at the image – an arm in a sweater holding a knife covered in blood – it’s clear what the situation is.
According to Kane, the show, while inspired by classic horror, won’t be a typical slasher. He describes it as a tense, 1970s-style thriller. Though it shares elements with slasher films – including a lot of violence and creative deaths – those aspects serve to develop the characters, themes, and setting, rather than being the main focus.
I love super vague descriptions like that. Check out some more opaque teaser images below.

There’s no confirmed release date for Crystal Lake yet. But with another Friday the 13th happening in November 2026, launching the eight-episode series about two months before that could be a good strategy – especially since it’s October and the perfect time for spooky content!
