Just after Pokémon Day, a unique online game called Wikigacha appeared. It transforms Wikipedia articles into collectible digital cards, similar to those found in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Players open virtual packs to reveal random articles from across Wikipedia, all designed in a classic Pokémon card style.
Okay, so as a movie and trivia buff, I gotta admit, Wikipedia is my first stop when I need a quick rundown on just about anything. It’s HUGE, right? Well, there’s this thing called Wikigacha, and it’s basically a collectible card game built on Wikipedia. Seriously, it has over 6.74 million different cards! And because it pulls info from every single Wikipedia article, you can collect a card for practically anything you can imagine. Forget Pokémon – we’re talking historical figures like George Washington, countries like Poland, or even abstract concepts like the Pythagorean theorem. It’s wild!
Many people enjoy collecting Pokémon, and Wikigacha offers a similar experience with a unique twist: you collect cards based on any topic imaginable. Each pack has five cards drawn from random Wikipedia articles. The better the Wikipedia article – meaning more detailed and popular – the rarer the card. The cards even have stats based on real data from the articles: attack power is determined by how many times the page is viewed, and defense is based on the article’s length.
The game features a huge and varied collection of items, and players can also battle each other online using their collections. Imagine pitting Queen Elizabeth II against the state of Wyoming, or characters from Silent Hill against those from Witches of East End – the possibilities are endless! Plus, there’s a trophy system to reward your accomplishments.
I have to say, I’m really enjoying how this game lets you collect absolutely anything – and yes, I definitely tried it out while writing this!
