Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry Reveal More Information About the Upcoming ‘Transformers One’

As a lifelong fan of the Transformers franchise, I am beyond excited about the upcoming CGI feature-length animated movie, Transformers One. The cast is absolutely stellar, with Chris Hemsworth and Bryan Tyree Henry voicing Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively, and Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1. It’s a dream come true to see such talented actors lend their voices to these iconic characters.

The Transformers franchise is renowned as one of the most famous mecha franchises ever created. It initially started out as an animated TV show and toy line, eventually becoming a globally recognized brand and one of the top shows from the 1980s. Over time, several reboots and revivals have been produced, including video games and live-action movie series that began strongly but eventually saw a decline in popularity.

The live-action series is undergoing a fresh start or makeover, with the film “Bumblebee” proving successful for the franchise following numerous setbacks. Now, the series is venturing into a new path, as an animated full-length CGI movie titled “Transformers One” is about to hit the screens soon.

Based on recent discussions, our friends from ComicBook.com had a brief chat with Chris Hemsworth and Bryan Tyree Henry, the film’s leading actors who lend their voices to Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively. They’ve shared some intriguing insights about the upcoming movie.

In the upcoming movie, Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry are set to play lead roles, lending their voices for younger versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively. However, there’s more! Joining them is Elita-1, voiced by Scarlett Johansson, and a youthful Bumblebee, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key (contrary to rumors, Jordan Peele is not in the movie). Additionally, we will see Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, and Steve Buscemi stepping into the role of Starscream.

Chris Hemsworth shared insights on stepping into the iconic role previously voiced by Peter Cullen, a legend whose rendition of Optimus’ voice has been cherished across generations. Here’s what he disclosed about his experience lending his voice to the character.

As a fervent admirer, I must confess my ignorance regarding our conversation with Cullen. Yet, I can’t help but feel elated, hoping he appreciates the effort. The challenge I faced when taking on this role was to emulate the greatness of Peter Cullen without mimicking him. It was a relief and joy to infuse more humor into the character.

Initially, the character showcased an unexpected playfulness and humor. However, towards the closing scenes of the movie, as he transformed into Optimus, he subtly adapted his delivery and tone to echo what we’re familiar with from Peter’s portrayal. It was quite enjoyable!

According to Henry’s perspective, he was tasked with evaluating the vocal performances of Jeff Morales, Miles’ father in the Spider-Verse series, and Megatron in Transformers One. Here’s his take on it:

Although they differ in many ways, there seems to be a commonality between them: their hearts share a similar sentiment, correct? Initially, I expected to utter the famous lines like ‘I am Megatron’ or ‘Rise up, Decepticons,’ but what truly captivated me was delving into his origins. I found it intriguing to hear the humor in his voice, the fear, and even Megatron being afraid – something unexpected. Hearing him laugh and have a partner-in-crime, learning that he admired other leaders, all of this appeals to me greatly.

When bringing these animated characters to life, I often ponder if you’ll sense their heart at the end of the day. Can you truly comprehend their character, discern their essence through my performance? It’s the same question I asked myself when voicing Megatron.
