The Fans Have Ranked the 10 Best ‘X-Men’ Characters

As someone who’s been a fan of X-Men for decades now, I can confidently say that this list hits the nail on the head. The characters are not only iconic but also embody the spirit of what it means to be different and embrace your powers, much like we all do in our daily lives – struggling to fit in while trying to make a difference.

Ranker is a popular place on the Internet where people can rank whatever they want, however they want, and whenever they want. This is always a fan-focused ranking system, and it is never officially tied to the people behind the projects in question. Recently, a large survey was organized on Ranker, whose goal was to determine the best X-Men characters from Marvel’s fictional universe. The list includes a bunch of characters, but in our report, we have decided to list the top ten characters from the site to provide you with better insight, combined with our original comments and opinions, which will add flavor to the whole report.

Absolutely, as this list contains some significant characters, we thought it would be interesting to share our findings. So, we’re planning to present the outcomes by arranging the top 10 characters in descending order, starting from tenth position and moving up to first place. We hope you find it engaging!

10. Piotr “Peter” Rasputin / Colossus

Frankly, it’s unexpected that Colossus has landed in the top ten. Don’t get me wrong; he certainly merits it. However, his popularity isn’t as widespread compared to mainstream characters, and his fanbase isn’t enormous. Yet, his distinctive style and the witty, straightforward comments he makes are what endears him to many. And while we’re taken aback, we must admit that we’re quite pleased to see him featured here.

9. Jean Grey / (Dark) Phoenix

While not all readers find Jean Grey appealing as a character, there’s no denying that she is a pivotal and powerful figure in the X-Men universe. Over time, her story has undergone significant changes, which may frustrate some fans. However, given her significant impact on the franchise, it’s clear that she rightfully earns her place among them.

8. Charles Francis Xavier / Professor X

To countless fans, Professor X embodies the essence of the X-Men franchise. Though he may not be the most powerful or widely admired mutant, his role as the founder and guiding force behind the X-Men team is indispensable; without him, the X-Men as a unified group would not have come to be. It’s undeniable that he should be included on this list, and in our view, he deserves an even more prominent position than his current standing suggests.

7. Scott Summers / Cyclops

Regarding Cyclops, it’s clear as day that fans adore him and consider him a significant leader among the X-Men. His narrative is captivating too, which makes perfect sense for his inclusion on this list. Agree with it? Without a shadow of a doubt!

6. Anna Marie / Rogue

Rogue is a character that resonates strongly with numerous fans, particularly those identifying as female. She was an outcast due to her uniqueness, but she eventually found a circle of companions who embraced her. As a symbol of adolescent turmoil, she gained massive popularity and would undoubtedly rank higher on this list.

5. Ororo Monroe / Storm

In the franchise, Storm plays an exceptionally significant role. Not only does she shatter traditional stereotypes within the universe, but also beyond it. Moreover, she ranks among the most powerful mutants due to her extraordinary abilities. Her influence is so profound that it’s challenging to overstate her importance, which is why we wholeheartedly endorse her presence on this list and acknowledge her prominent position as well.

4. Remy LeBeau / Gambit

Despite not gaining widespread fame through movies, Gambit continues to rank among the most beloved X-Men characters, and it’s easy to see why. The character possesses an undeniable allure, making this selection entirely justifiable. He may not be a household name, but his worthiness for recognition is undeniable.

3. Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler

Without a doubt, Nightcrawler is a unique character, and it’s easy to see why fans are captivated by him. He’s intriguing, unlike any other, has a mysterious edge, and boasts an engaging backstory – traits that resonate with fans. However, while we concur that he merits a place on this list, we feel his position in third might be somewhat overstated. In our opinion, he should rank a tad lower.

2. Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto

Magneto is a significant antagonist in the X-Men series, but he’s not just a one-dimensional villain. Instead, he’s a multi-faceted character that could more accurately be described as an antihero. His narrative is among the most compelling within the franchise, and although his actions have been villainous, it’s easy to see why fans adore him so passionately. The fact that he comes in second place on this list doesn’t shock us at all, and we wholeheartedly support this decision.

1. James Howlett / Wolverine

Without a shadow of a doubt, Wolverine claimed the top spot. He’s not only highly admired by many, but also plays a crucial role. The films have certainly boosted his popularity, yet even in the comics, his distinctive character has won over fans. This ranking is well-deserved, and we wholeheartedly support it.
