Her request, made to Halle Bailey and J. Christ who were presenting, was captured in a clip that received criticism from social media users due to Tyla asking them to hold her ‘Moon Man’ trophy because it was heavy for her.

Later on social media, the singer from Butterflies explained the circumstances more clearly. In a post on X (previously Twitter), she inquired as to why her words were being misconstrued and expressed that she didn’t want Bailey to be involved in the situation. She stated, “You all make everything complicated…”, implying that the incident was just a light-hearted moment.

She set the record straight, directing focus at more important things at hand, that is, her VMA win. She added, “I was not asking my girl Halle… We just girls, STFU I WON A VMAAAA.”

2024 saw Tyla’s moment to shine brightly. In June of that year, she graced the stage at the BET Awards, delivering an outstanding performance of her hit single Jump, a collaboration with Gunna and Skillibeng.
