James Gunn’s Wife Jennifer Holland Mentions Paramount At Saturn Awards

James Gunn’s Peacemaker won Best Superhero Television Series at the 53rd Saturn Awards. It triumphed over other popular shows including Daredevil: Born Again, Gen V, Invincible, Ironheart, and The Sandman.

The victory itself is impressive, but what’s truly remarkable is Jennifer Holland mentioning Paramount during her acceptance speech.

Jennifer Holland mentions Paramount on stage

John Cena accepted the Saturn Award for Peacemaker and, in a video message, expressed his gratitude to HBO Max, DC Studios, DC Comics, and everyone involved in creating the show and its characters – including the writers and artists.

She then added, “and probably Paramount because they’re probably going to own us soon is my guess.”

The comment caused confusion because Paramount isn’t involved with Peacemaker; the show is made by Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The agreement between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery is still expected to be finalized later this year.

This is one of the first instances of someone connected to the DC Universe publicly mentioning Paramount, especially as discussions increase about Warner Bros. Discovery and David Ellison.

James Gunn hasn’t said much publicly about recent events, making Tom Holland’s recent statement particularly noteworthy. It directly links Paramount and DC – and especially Gunn himself – in a very visible way.

The Paramount line is what stands out

While Peacemaker receiving a Saturn Award is good news for James Gunn and DC Studios (despite the show losing viewers and ending after one season), Holland’s comment is particularly noteworthy.

Since Paramount didn’t actually work on the show, specifically thanking them seems deliberate, not just a mistake.

James Gunn hasn’t commented directly on the rumors about a merger, even though he’s been regularly using social media. He’s responded to fans about DC projects, clarified incorrect information, and shared updates from the set, but he’s avoided addressing the speculation surrounding Paramount.

Peter Safran showed up, James Gunn did not

The timing also adds to the speculation.

I heard that David Ellison recently had a meeting with about 150 people from Warner Bros. Discovery. Apparently, Peter Safran, Mike De Luca, and Pam Abdy – some of the top film folks at Warner Bros. – were all there, but James Gunn wasn’t able to make it.

It’s worth noting that Ellison mentioned DC Comics multiple times – actually, twice – and has expressed being a big fan.

It’s worth paying attention to Safran’s attendance at the meeting, as he leads DC Studios alongside Gunn. When one of the top DC leaders is present at an event connected to James Gunn, and the other isn’t, it’s bound to spark speculation. Holland’s recent comment about the Saturn Awards just adds to the discussion.

Gunn is in Atlanta on Man of Tomorrow pre-production

Gunn was probably absent from the meeting because he’s in Atlanta preparing for Man of Tomorrow, though filming hasn’t begun yet – he’s still in the planning stages.

James Gunn has confirmed he’s currently working on pre-production, and filming is anticipated to start next month on April 17th.
