MTV VMAs 2024: 8 Most Viral Moments From The Event ft Britney Spears’ Homage, Sabrina’s Alien Kiss And Taylor Swift’s Record

As someone who’s spent countless nights glued to the television screen for music award shows, I must say that last night’s extravaganza was nothing short of electrifying! The performances were top-notch, but if I had to pick my favorite, it would be the one and only Chappell Roan. Her exotic debut performance was a perfect blend of fierceness and artistry, reminiscent of a medieval knight’s ball meets a modern rock concert.

Each year when MTV reveals its Music Awards, there’s an excitement among tabloids, stars, and artists alike as they anticipate an extraordinary event brimming with exceptional performances, memorable instances in the limelight, and worthy recipients of awards.

On September 11, 2024, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) took place at the UBS Arena in New York City. For the event, the stunning Megan Thee Stallion was the hostess.

As a devoted music enthusiast, I found myself amidst an array of luminary stars, collectively celebrating this year’s most outstanding melodies. From Sabrina Carpenter’s infectious hit Espresso to the collaborative chart-topper Fortnight by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, the air was charged with rhythmic energy.

Let’s take a minute and check out the top 8 viral moments from the prestigious award show.

1. Flavor Flav gifts Jordan Chiles a bronze clock and Olympic prize money

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Flavor Fav was part of an enthusiastic Team USA supporter on stage, sharing the limelight with Olympian Jordan Chiles. Together, they presented the opening award of the evening, honoring the Best Collaboration. In this category, Taylor Swift and Post Malone were victorious for their popular collaboration in Fortnight, earning them the Moon Person statuette.

In response to the latest news about Simone Biles losing her gymnastics bronze medal, the rapper presented her with a bronze clock necklace and proposed to reimburse the prize money she would have earned as a third-place winner.

Here’s another thing,” Flav announced on stage. “I went ahead and secured your winnings for you… I wanted to keep it a secret and not spoil the surprise by mentioning it backstage.

“But Jordan, you did your thing,” he told her. “Congratulations. You deserve everything.”

2. Taylor Swift and Post Malone share a sweet acceptance speech

This year’s favorite musical pair, whose joint effort on the track “Fortnight” shattered music charts, were awarded the first Moon Person Statue presented that evening for the specified album.

Swift stated, “There’s a very good explanation why Post Malone is everyone in music’s top choice for collaborations.” She then continued, directly addressing him: “It’s due to your incredible talent. You’re incredibly versatile, and you have such a down-to-earth personality.

In response, Malone echoed his feelings, describing Swift as truly unique and confessing that he found himself speechless. He recognized the exceptional nature of her work and stated that it was a privilege to be acquainted with her.

3. Megan Thee Stallion honored Iconic Britney Spears VMAs Outfit

2024 VMA Awards host Megan Thee Stallion captured everyone’s attention with her series of eye-catching outfits throughout the night. Among them, an outfit that paid homage to Britney Spears’ memorable I’m a Slave 4 U performance at the 2001 VMAs stood as the most noteworthy tribute.

Besides Megan, it wasn’t just Tate McRae who paid tribute to Spears with her fashion choice. Tate donned a Roberto Cavalli gown layered over Fleur du Mal lingerie, mirroring the style Spears sported during her 2001 red carpet event.

4. Sabrina Carpenter references Britney Spears and shared a moment with an alien

Sabrina Carpenter performed a medley that showcased her popular songs this year, along with an extraordinary stage setup filled with astronauts and an alien character. As she moved from “Please Please Please” to “Taste,” a spoken segment from Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again” echoed in the background. In a playful moment, Carpenter even shared a sweet kiss with one of the alien characters, causing the audience to erupt in applause.

5. Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry share a sweet kiss before her video vanguard speech

At the esteemed awards ceremony where she was honored with the Video Vanguard Award for her performance, Katy Perry acknowledged someone significant to the spectators in attendance.

In Orlando Bloom’s speech, he shared that he fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson, which is who Katy Perry is known by.

He went on to say, “She’s recognized worldwide as a superstar, infusing love, light, and her distinctive humor into every song and video she produces. Yet, to me, she’s not just a family member, but a mother and partner who shares that same love and happiness with our household.

Additionally, Perry paused for a brief moment before he affectionately kissed Bloom following her mesmerizing performance of her top tunes collection.

6. Chappell Roan lit up the stage with her debut performance at the awards

In an electrifying and unforgettable debut performance, the timelessly talented Chappell Roan ignited the stage with an exotic flair. Kicking off the show dramatically by launching a flaming crossbow towards a castle backdrop, Roan continued to captivate in full armor as she belted out her song “Good Luck, Babe!” accompanied by sword-dancing knights.

In a grand, electrifying manner, she established an overwhelming atmosphere that left viewers spellbound. As she brought her spectacular act to a close, she kneeled at the stage’s front while the audience erupted in thunderous applause.

7. Halsey pulled up a garage set for the audience

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I stepped onto the stage with my signature flair and panache, adorning a stunningly timeless dress by Varcase – the very same one Elizabeth Hurley graced at the VMAs back in 1996.

Later, Halsey continued the throwback vibe by delivering an ’00s-inspired rendition of her newest single Ego. The singer-songwriter strummed her electric guitar in a garage setup accompanied by her band, which featured Victoria De Angel from Måneskin on bass.

8. Chappell Roan delivered a touching acceptance speech

Famous artist Chappell Roan was the first to receive the Moon Person trophy, beating out Gracie Abrams and Tyla in the Best New Artist category. As she accepted the award while wearing a chainmail dress, she thanked MTV, her record label, friends, and family during her speech.

Roan thanked Island Records for their support and added, “Let no one discourage you from being truly yourself.” (This version maintains the spirit of the original while using more polite language.)

I also want to highlight some incredible drag artists and members from the LGBTQ+ community who resonate with my music. As a fellow member, I empathize with their experiences.

The singer expressed gratitude to those who are fans, who tune in to her, who catch her emotions when she shares her joys and worries. She’s been open about her apprehensions regarding fame, and added…

She finished her speech by saying, “And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you. I understand you, because I’m one of you, and don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you want to be.”

“Were you among those who watched the exciting awards event last night? Which act did you find particularly captivating? Share your impressions with us.
