MTV VMAs 2024: Eminem Wins Best Hip-Hop For The Death Of Slim Shady Lead Single Houdini

As a die-hard Eminem fan who has witnessed his journey from the early days of “The Slim Shady LP” to the latest masterpiece, “The Death of Slim Shady,” I can confidently say that this man is not just a rapper but an icon, a legend, and a testament to the power of resilience. The MTV Video Music Awards 2024 was a night to remember, with Eminem once again proving why he’s the Rap God.

Eminem clinched the MTV Video Music Award in the Best Hip-Hop category for his recent hit “Houdini,” which is from The Death of Slim Shady album. He bested other nominees such as Drake featuring Sexyy Red & SZA’s “Rich Baby Daddy”, GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!”, Gunna’s “fukumean”, Megan Thee Stallion’s “BOA”, and Travis Scott featuring Playboi Carti’s – FE!N. In addition, his song Houdini was also recognized with the Best Visual Effects Award.

Eminem, with his collection of 15 MTV Video Music Awards, now holds the title of the most awarded solo male artist in VMA history, surpassing Peter Gabriel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this 51-year-old Hip-Hop legend also has the most wins for a rapper, second only to Madonna who has amassed 71 nominations as the artist with the second highest number of nominations ever.

In 2024, Marshall found himself nominated across eight categories, such as best hip-hop, best visual effects, video of the year, song of the summer, and the VMAs most iconic performance, for a memorable medley he performed from the year 2000. This performance saw him call forth hundreds of Slim Shady doppelgängers as they joined him on stage to perform The Real Slim Shady and The Way I Am. Now, two decades later, he effortlessly reprised this iconic act during his Houdini performance.

Eminem, the Master of Rap, clinched two awards at the MTV VMAs 2024 – Best Hip-Hop and Best Visual Effects. Both accolades were for his lead single, “Houdini,” from his latest studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady.” For those not in the know, “Houdini” is a nostalgic remake of his earlier hit, “Without Me.” In this new version, Slim Shady reappears from the 2000s via a portal opened in 2024, dons a Robin costume, scales a wall, and declares himself as the ‘Rap Boy.’

Apart from the lively music video, it includes appearances by Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, 50 Cent, and Eminem’s three kids – Hailie, Alaina, and Stevie. Fans eagerly await the unveiling of The Death of Slim Shady: Expanded Mourner’s Edition on Friday the 13th, as Em himself has teased it on social media.

Eminem ignited the stage at the start of the performance, launching into a medley from his most recent album. To pay tribute to his 2000s phase where he sported bleached blonde hair, the genuine Slim Shady emerged and entertained the crowd with several doppelgängers dressed in black shirts, blonde wigs, and denim. Additionally, he delivered an emotional song called Somebody Save Me from his album, which touches on his battles with addiction, family troubles, and mental health issues, featuring Jelly Roll’s track Save Me.
