Megan Thee Stallion is dominating the 2024 MTV VMAs by not just hosting the event but also earning major awards. On Wednesday, September 11, during the pre-show, the 29-year-old rapper won her first Moon Person of the night with her collaboration “Mamushi” featuring Yuki Chiba. The song earned her the award for Best Trending Video.
After winning the award, Megan Thee Stallion expressed her surprise as she and Yuki had recorded their song in a small Japanese apartment or studio. They hadn’t anticipated it would become so popular, as they were simply playing around with the melody at the time. “I feel quite legendary,” she said, suggesting that she now feels well-known.
In relation to her hosting role, the rapper arrived in style at New York’s UBS Arena. For the event on the red carpet, she chose a striking black dress that had a corseted bodice and a see-through mesh skirt that was body-hugging. To add drama, there were large sections of fabric draped around her legs, giving the appearance of a bouquet wrapped up.
At the event, the rapper from WAP honored Britney Spears by imitating her memorable performance at the VMAs during a part that highlighted iconic performances of the award ceremony, such as Britney’s rendition of “I’m a Slave 4 U” at the 2001 edition. Known for many reasons, including Britney wearing revealing clothing and dancing with a snake, this performance left a lasting impression on the audience. In paying tribute to the act, Thee Stallion attempted to recreate it using a reptile, but not everyone can emulate Britney’s performance, as she is one of a kind! As the snake was removed, Megan let out a relieved, “Oh my god.”
