As an ardent fan of Andy Samberg, I am absolutely thrilled to see him stepping out of his comfort zone and taking on a role in a World War II film, Lee. It is truly exhilarating to witness such versatility from an actor who has made us laugh countless times through Brooklyn Nine-Nine, SNL sketches, and Palm Springs.
Actor Andy Samberg, well-known for his role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is set to play a photojournalist in the forthcoming World War II movie titled Lee. In this film, he’ll be sharing the screen with Kate Winslet, who will portray the character of war photographer, Lee Miller.
For the fans of Samberg, it would be a treat to watch the actor play a role outside of his comfort genre, comedy. For eight years, the actor had been a part of the popular sitcom and has also made the audience laugh through his sketches performed at the SNL, and hence, agreeing with the character, Samberg claimed that he was hesitant initially.
Prior to the premiere of the film, the actor from Palm Springs spoke extensively with Digital Spy about his character and confessed that Kate Winslet’s presence was a nerve-wracking factor that ultimately convinced him to accept the part in the movie.
Regarding his position, Samberg expressed that he had some reservations. However, upon learning that Kate Winslet wanted him to act in a film she was producing, he quickly agreed without hesitation.
Samberg has been cast as David Sherman, and in order to secure him for the part, the actress from Titanic reached out to the comedian, pointing out that he bears a striking resemblance to the individual whom his character is modeled after.
The actor reminisced, “She extended a hand, and I believe she genuinely said something like, ‘You resemble the real person, David Sherman,’ as she had appreciated some of my performances with her children. So, we read script together.” However, Samberg was initially “a bit apprehensive” on the first day of filming, and joked lightheartedly, “I didn’t want to spoil the movie; that was my motto.
Winslet encouraged the actor to accept the role, as the former SNL member recalled, “She said, ‘You’re going to excel in this. I believe in you. They want you for it.’ So I decided to try. After all, when will there be another opportunity like this, to collaborate with her on such a unique project?
Regarding the movie, “Lee” centers on the tale of a fashion model transitioning into a war photographer for Vogue Magazine.
The narrative revolves around the life of photographer Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, a fashion model who gained prominence as a renowned war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.
Lee releases in theaters worldwide on September 13.
