As a devoted Potterhead who grew up with Harry, Hermione, and Ron as my cherished companions, I am both excited and apprehensive about the upcoming reboot of the beloved series. The prospect of a more diverse cast brings a refreshing twist to the magical world we all know and love, but the thought of new actors stepping into the shoes of characters that have been etched in our hearts for nearly two decades is daunting.
HBO is planning to revive the Harry Potter series with a more inclusive cast as suggested by Variety. The studio has put out a call for young actors aged 9-11 to fill roles like Harry, Hermione, Ron, and others in the upcoming series.
“At this time, we can only accept applications from children who will be aged 9-11 as of April 2025, and who are residents of either the U.K. or Ireland. Please apply only if you fit these criteria. Additionally, we welcome actors of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities – our aim is for a diverse casting.
Candidates should submit a 30-second video, in which they recite a personal poem or short narrative unrelated to Harry Potter, using their unique accent as directed. In addition, they must also prepare and record a one-minute video where they share about themselves personally.
In the second portion of your audition tape, please include details such as your date of birth, height, current location, as well as a brief description of any family member, pet, or friend you are closely attached to. The upcoming series is a revival of the movie franchise inspired by J.K. Rowling’s books, which initially premiered in 2001 and catapulted Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson to fame with their performances as Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively.
Back in April 2023, news broke out about a revamped series, and it was subsequently validated by HBO Max’s CEO and chairman Casey Bloys in an official statement. He stated that “Harry Potter is a cultural juggernaut, and it’s evident that the passion and hunger for the Wizarding World remains unquenchable.” The upcoming Max Original series, jointly produced with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, will further explore the timeless books cherished by fans worldwide.
