What Is Multiple Myeloma? Condition Explored As Bruce Springsteen’s Wife Patti Scialfa Reveals Diagnosis

As a devoted fan who has followed Bruce Springsteen’s journey through music for decades, I must say that this latest revelation about his wife Patti Scialfa‘s health battle with multiple myeloma has touched me deeply. It’s been enlightening to witness their love story unfold over the years, and now, facing this challenge together has added a new layer of admiration for their bond.

At the Toronto International Film Festival, several films were unveiled, among them was a documentary about Bruce Springsteen. This film disclosed a health issue, known as multiple myeloma, that his wife, Patti Scialfa, has been dealing with.

Over here, I’ve bared my soul about my longstanding battle with multiple myeloma – a health challenge that I’ve been grappling with for a whopping six years now. Yet, amidst this personal struggle, I stand as a cherished companion to a musical icon, and on stage, I proudly embody the essence of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band.

As a devoted admirer, let me say that when the celebrated artist featured in Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band confessed, “Touring has become a struggle for me,” it struck a chord within me.

Per the website of Mayo Clinic, multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in plasma cells.

Additionally, the site explains that when you have the mentioned health issue, it’s common for cancerous plasma cells to accumulate in your bone marrow.

Cancerous cells overcrowd the bone marrow more than healthy blood cells. Instead of making antibodies, these cells make proteins that do not work right for the human body, ultimately leading to complications of multiple myeloma, as per the Mayo Clinic.

Symptoms associated with this health concern may involve discomfort in bones, particularly the spinal column, ribcage, and hip area, accompanied by feelings of nausea, difficulty passing stools, diminished desire to eat, and potential signs of mental confusion or clouded thinking in the brain.

The patients may feel tired and suffer from loss as well.

Her health issues came to light for the first time during the premiere of the documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024, which was the occasion when Patti Scialfa shared this information publicly.

In the movie, Scialfa discusses how the health issue has impacted her immune system significantly, hence she must exercise great caution when making decisions about her daily activities.

Occasionally, I get the chance to grace a stage and belt out a few tunes, and let me tell you, it’s always a thrill! This unexpected turn in my life has become more than just a hobby; it’s something that truly resonates with me.

Continuing in the film, she shared that she enjoys singing Fire alongside her spouse, Springsteen, who she’s been wedded to for the past 33 years.

Discussing their on-stage rendition of the specified song together, Patti Scialfa, aged 71, highlighted that spectators might glimpse a less visible aspect of her bond with her spouse, Bruce, during their performance.

Regarding their private family matters, they share three offspring: two boys, one being Evan, aged 34, the other Sam, who is 30 years old, and a girl named Jessica, at the age of 32.

The documentary will hit Hulu and Disney+ on October 25.
