A Reddit user recently shared a heartwarming discovery that’s sparking nostalgia among Halo fans worldwide. Known as Personal_Contact_463, they posted photos of a crate their father had stored away back in 2004, calling it a “time capsule.”
The crate, untouched for over 20 years, contained treasures from the launch of Halo 2, offering a glimpse back at gaming in the early 2000s.
Inside, the user found the original limited-edition steelbook case, game discs, and old-fashioned printed manuals. They even discovered an unused trial card for Xbox Live – a service Halo 2 played a big part in popularizing for console gamers.
The original poster shared a story about his father’s habit of saving things for later. He explained that his dad was a big fan of the game Halo and always kept random items tucked away. Recently, his father asked for help cleaning out the basement, which led to an unexpected discovery.
“He asked me to come downstairs and dig through some boxes, and that’s when we found this old gem in a small chest,” the user wrote. He called it “legendary loot.” The photos showed a steelbook case for the game, clearly aged with rust and wear after twenty years.
The post quickly became popular, receiving thousands of likes and hundreds of comments from other gamers. Many commenters were surprised by how long ago the game was released, realizing it now belonged to a previous generation.
