Hilary Duff recently shared that her most memorable moment from her time on Gossip Girl was a particularly daring storyline. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 38-year-old actress discussed her 2009 guest appearance and the scene that fans still talk about.
Duff played Olivia Burke, a movie star trying to experience college life at NYU, who became friends with Vanessa Abrams and dated Dan Humphrey. This led to a provocative scene involving all three characters, and Duff immediately recognized it would be controversial.
She jokingly recalled anticipating her mother’s reaction, noting it was a big change from her earlier, more family-friendly roles on the Disney Channel. Even now, years later, people still recognize her for the part – she was even recognized at a lost luggage counter in Paris!
During an interview, the actress recounted an amusing experience: a gate agent recognized her and asked if she was on Gossip Girl. She playfully responded, ‘Yes, that’s how you know me!’ Having previously played characters like Wendy and Lizzie McGuire, her role on the show helped her transition into more grown-up parts.
The singer is not only looking back at her work on television, but she’s also making a very personal and successful comeback to music. Her new album, Luck… or Something, came out on February 20th, and it’s her first full album in more than ten years. One of the songs, “We Don’t Talk,” is about her difficult relationship with her sister, Haylie Duff, and she recently shared that the song is a very honest look at their estrangement.
She shared that the album is deeply personal, particularly focusing on her relationship with her sister. She described feeling incredibly lonely without her sister in her life right now. Although it was a tough decision to make such a private struggle public, she felt it was important to be honest in her music. She wrestled with whether to include it, but ultimately decided it reflected her current life and needed to be part of the album.
The new album, created with her husband Matthew Koma, has already been a hit, reaching number three on the Billboard 200 chart. She and Matthew juggle their work with family life, raising their three daughters – Banks, Mae, and Townes – and her teenage son, Luca.
This summer, she’s hitting the road for the Lucky Me world tour, her first major arena tour in twenty years. The tour will take her to cities across North America, Europe, and Australia, starting in June and continuing through the fall.
In addition to performing, she’s also reportedly working on a documentary series about her return to pop music, showing how she balances motherhood and her other projects. Though she’s known for iconic acting roles like Olivia Burke, she’s now clearly focused on this exciting new phase of her life and career.
