Kendrick Lamar will be the star of the Super Bowl LIX halftime show

As a dedicated follower and admirer of hip-hop, I can confidently say that Kendrick Lamar is set to steal the show at Super Bowl LIX in 2025. Having been a part of the halftime spectacle back in 2022, he’s no stranger to the stage. But this time around, he’ll be the star of the show, and rightfully so!

It’s likely that music enthusiasts won’t see Drake during Super Bowl LIX in early 2025, given his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar. Instead, it seems Kendrick Lamar has been chosen to entertain during the halftime show.

At the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in 2022, you might recall that Lamar was involved. But he didn’t take center stage as the main performer. Instead, it was Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige who were the featured acts. Lamar played a supporting role, more like an assistant.

He is worthy of pulling off his own show, though. Since his debut record came out in 2012, he has ascended to hip-hop royalty. Most seem to agree with him in his spat with Drake, likely because Lamar seems more like one of us (pun intended but still true) as opposed to Drake who seems to need to be the alpha.

Kendrick Lamar chosen to perform at the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show in February

For Super Bowl LIX, Roc Nation and Jesse Collins are set to produce the Apple Music Halftime Show, with creative direction by pgLang for Kendrick Lamar. The performance will feature exclusively Lamar’s original songs. One of the defining qualities of hip-hop is that most of its best tracks seem sincere to the artist themselves, ensuring no two renditions are alike.

The Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans and will take place on February 9, 2025.

In 2017, Lamar’s album DAMN earned a Pulitzer Prize, making him the first rapper and non-classical/non-jazz artist to receive this honor. This feat has always been one of his impressive accomplishments. There’s no question about his credibility within hip-hop culture, but he also demonstrates the ability to create genuine works of art.

Contrarily, it appears that Drake focuses more on stirring up controversy and producing short-lived hits rather than timeless masterpieces. Kendrick Lamar, however, remains the superior artist between the two.
