Kathryn Hahn Joins Disney’s ‘Tangled’ As Mother Gothel

Disney has officially cast Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel in its live-action Tangled.

The studio announced the news on social media with a video of Mandy Hahn playfully showing off a Mother Gothel T-shirt and calling it her “outfit of the day.”

The video playfully asks if viewers want the actress to play the villain, then confirms that she will be taking on that role in the new remake.

Hahn Teases The Role In Disney Video

In the clip, Hahn jokes with fans as she shows off the shirt featuring the Tangled villain.

“I recently learned what ‘OOTD’ means – outfit of the day – so here’s what I’m wearing today,” Hahn explained. “Just a simple look: jeans, a t-shirt, and glasses. It’s comfortable and easy – just a typical day.”

Mother Gothel is a controlling woman who imprisons Rapunzel in a tower. She does this to exploit the princess’s magical hair and maintain her own youth.

Teagan Croft And Milo Manheim Lead The Cast

Hahn will star alongside Teagan Croft, who you may know from Titans as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim (from Disney’s Zombies movies) as Flynn Rider, the thief who helps the princess get away.

They take over the roles voiced in the animated movie by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, is heading up this new film, based on a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Kristin Burr is producing through Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada as executive producer.

After the live-action Snow White movie didn’t perform well in theaters in early 2025, Disney temporarily stopped work on projects. However, they started developing Tangled again last fall.

The Original Tangled

The 2010 animated movie Tangled is a fresh take on the traditional Rapunzel story by the Brothers Grimm. It follows a lively princess with magical, golden hair who finally leaves her tower and goes on an adventure with a charismatic thief.

The film was a huge financial success, earning over $590 million globally, and its song, “I See the Light,” was nominated for an Academy Award. The memorable music was composed by Disney’s Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled is coming together, and Kathryn Hahn has been cast as Mother Gothel.
