James Gunn‘s absence from David Ellison’s initial Warner Bros. Discovery meeting is causing some talk, but Gunn may have already provided an explanation on social media.
Recent reports indicate that Larry Ellison held a meeting with approximately 150 Warner Bros. Discovery employees. Key attendees included Peter Safran and the heads of Warner Bros. film, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.
Gunn, however, was not there, which stood out since he is one of the heads of DC Studios.

Gunn appears to be in Atlanta for pre-production
I’ve been following James Gunn’s social media, and a recent post from Atlanta really suggests he’s fully immersed in working on Man of Tomorrow. He mentioned how much he enjoys having friends visit during the often-isolated pre-production phase, which definitely indicates they’re making serious progress on the film down there.
Since filming for the new Superman movie is expected to start around April 17th, James Gunn being in Atlanta to prepare for the film explains his absence from the recent meeting, and there’s no need for concern.

Peter Safran represented DC Studios
It’s also key that Safran was at the meeting. As Gunn’s partner leading DC Studios, and a Warner Bros. producer, his presence ensured DC’s interests were represented.
Having Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy involved makes sense, as they are both in charge of Warner Bros.’ movie division.
While Gunn’s absence seemed strange at first, it seems there was a good reason for it.

Why Gunn missing still got noticed
Despite the explanation about the Atlanta event, James Gunn’s absence from David Zaslav’s first big meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery staff is still likely to be a talking point.
It’s generally expected that studio executives attend important meetings, particularly when leadership roles are changing.
Safran being there softens it, but Gunn being away still opens the door to speculation.
