Don Cheadle Hilariously Reveals Ocean’s Twelve Cast Used Brad Pitt to Fool Paparazzi While Filming

As an ardent fan of Hollywood movies and its behind-the-scenes drama, I find Don Cheadle‘s revelation about the Ocean’s Twelve set to be nothing short of captivating. The way they utilized Brad Pitt’s stardom as a shield against the relentless paparazzi is a testament to their cleverness and resourcefulness. It’s fascinating how a simple mention of Pitt’s name could send the photographers scurrying off, providing them with much-needed privacy.

In the making of Ocean’s Twelve, which was released in 2004, Don Cheadle and his fellow actors recognized the importance of safeguarding themselves from the intrusive paparazzi. Their efforts to do so were aided significantly by Brad Pitt.

Recently, Cheadle revealed that they used Pitt’s great stardom and a lot of his fame to bring the attention of the photographers away from the set and themselves. He revealed their trick on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast.

It’s well-known that paparazzi derived from Italian terms that were comfortably recognizable to actors during filming in Italy. Actor Cheadle recalls an amusing incident: when he and other actors like Clooney or Damon would casually mention Pitt’s name, a flurry of cameras would rush towards Pitt’s location, regardless of his presence.

For those who may not be familiar, Ocean’s Twelve is a follow-up movie to the 2001 film, Ocean’s Eleven. In this sequel, Don Cheadle joins forces with George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt as part of the cast.

In a different setting, Cheadle mentioned, “Should the paparazzi appear, I’d likely be with George, Matt, or another acquaintance. We’d probably exclaim, ‘There’s Brad!’ and they would all react, ‘Could that be Brad?'”

During the filming of Ocean’s Twelve, Pitt’s reputation had already grown into a remarkable phenomenon, making him an ideal diversion for the paparazzi. In stark contrast, the actor from The Avengers openly shared, “I can still move about quite freely. I don’t experience much bother.”

Discussing well-known individuals, Cheadle pointed out a common misunderstanding: that celebrities owe their fans everything. He elaborated that fans can sometimes overstep boundaries without considering the artist’s preferences, invading privacy and making them uncomfortable. He strongly advocated for maintaining a clear distinction between his professional life (acting) and personal affairs.

In December 2004, Ocean’s Twelve became one of the top ten highest-earning films of the year with a box office total of approximately $362.9 million USD. Notably, the cast reunited for the third installment, titled Ocean’s Thirteen, which was released in 2007.
