‘Had a Tiny Little Baby’: Halsey Reveals Learning About Lymphoproliferative Disorder Diagnosis On Their 28th Birthday

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for resilience and creativity, I admire Halsey‘s courage and determination in the face of adversity. Having been diagnosed with not one but two rare autoimmune disorders during her prime career years is a challenge that few could endure.

Halsey reecntly revealed they found out they were sick during their 28th birthday. In an interview for a cover feature in PAPER Magazine, the pop star spoke about how they have been dealing with their health problems and how it impacted the music on The Great Impersonator.

“On my tour, I gave birth to a small infant, and it was on my 28th birthday that I received the news about my T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.”

Halsey revealed on social media that they had recently been diagnosed with lupus and a seldom-seen T-cell lymphoproliferative condition, as they announced through an Instagram album on June 4th this year.

When they received news about their health, it left them struggling to find the right words to express themselves, which in turn disrupted their creative flow. Halsey expressed this sentiment by saying, “I used to beg the universe for inspiration. But after hearing this record, I found myself at home, questioning what to write about next. I was speechless.”

Halsey expressed that they often explore themes of conflict, sorrow, and wrongdoing in their work, but found themselves at a loss for inspiration. In other words, they felt as though they had run out of things to write about. Additionally, medical professionals advised them that pursuing an artistic career could hinder their recovery process. This seemed unjust to them, as the advice was essentially to quit their job if they wanted the issue to resolve itself.

Halsey shared that in 2022, they received a diagnosis for a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder as well as Lupus SLE. It’s likely these conditions will remain with them throughout their life, but currently, they are being managed or are in remission.

Halsey questioned the media outlet, “Would the rules be the same if I were born in a different era or alternate reality, ending up as Halsey? Will I constantly fall ill if I become Halsey? Was I merely portraying these other dimensions?”

As per the National Institutes of Health, Lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus) is a long-term autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells and tissues. This misdirected attack can potentially harm various parts of the body such as the skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys, blood cells, and brain, while also causing inflammation in these areas.

Based on information from the National Library of Medicine, T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders are a rare category of tumors affecting the lymphoid system. These disorders may lead to conditions such as leukemia, skin lesions, organ masses, and various other complications.
