A fresh trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is out now, offering fans a sneak peek at the animated film before it hits cinemas.
This movie picks up where the last one left off, with Mario and his friends venturing out of the Mushroom Kingdom and into outer space! Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach travel to different planets, encountering new challenges and dangers throughout the galaxy. They’ll be joined by familiar faces like Yoshi and Rosalina as they work together to defeat a powerful new enemy.
The new trailer reveals Bowser is back as the primary villain, but he’s not working alone this time. His son, Bowser Jr., seems to be a key player in helping Bowser regain his power after a previous defeat. In one scene, Bowser Jr. confidently announces that the Bowser family will be feared again, after apparently rescuing his father and allowing him to reclaim the Koopa Kingdom.

The movie is heavily inspired by the 2007 Nintendo Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy. Similar to the game, the plot features journeys to unique planets with odd gravity and landscapes. The trailer suggests we’ll also see many well-known characters from the Mario world.
The preview also features quick glimpses of other characters, like Birdo, King Wart, and the large T-Rex that appears in Super Mario Odyssey – a familiar face for many players.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the animated movie, which features a star-studded voice cast. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. Jack Black returns as Bowser, and the cast also includes well-known performers like Keegan-Michael Key, Donald Glover, Issa Rae, Benny Safdie, Kevin Michael Richardson, Luis Guzmán, and Brie Larson.
Building on the massive success of 2023’s The Super Mario Movie, a new film is in the works. The original movie, a collaboration between Illumination and Nintendo and distributed by Universal Pictures, was a huge hit, earning approximately $1.3 billion globally on a $100 million budget, making it one of the most successful animated films in recent history.
The movie was also groundbreaking, being the first film adapted from a video game to earn over $1 billion worldwide.
The highly anticipated sequel aims to build on the success of the first film when it hits theaters on April 1, 2026. Early reactions to the latest trailer suggest fans are already getting excited as the release date approaches.
