The Oscars are almost here! With the ceremony taking place on March 16th, excitement is building as awards season reaches its peak.
This week, Spling explores three very different but equally impressive options: the fast-paced excitement of Formula 1 racing, the gripping supernatural drama Sinners, and the epic scope of One Battle After Another.
Hey movie fans! So, what are you planning to watch this weekend? I’m diving into some Oscar contenders with my WKNDwatchlist. With the awards show just around the corner on March 16th, now’s the perfect time to check out three of the biggest and most talked-about films of the year.
F1
Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick, delivers a similarly thrilling experience with this new F1 racing film. Brad Pitt shines as a seasoned racer who takes a newcomer under his wing, all within a visually stunning and technically impressive $250 million production. The film is a fast-paced, immersive ride best enjoyed on the biggest screen possible, though the story occasionally feels a bit predictable.
Sinners
Ryan Coogler’s film, Sinners, is a unique and energetic blend of genres—a violent vampire musical set during the Prohibition era. Michael B. Jordan plays both twins in this bold movie, which feels like a mix of Babylon and From Dusk Till Dawn. While it’s often messy and pushes boundaries with its gore, strong acting and a great blues soundtrack manage to keep it engaging.
One Battle After Another
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, One Battle After Another, is a lively and ambitious three-hour movie. Leonardo DiCaprio gives a standout performance as a former revolutionary who’s constantly evading a sinister villain played by Sean Penn in this 1970s-set thriller. It’s a fast-paced, funny film that uniquely mixes the excitement of a heist movie with quirky humor – a true testament to Anderson’s distinctive style.
So, I’m always curious to know what everyone’s seeing first! Tell me in the comments which movie you’re planning on checking out. If you’re looking for more of my reviews, you can find them over at splingmovies.com. And my motto? Don’t just watch something – really experience it with SPL!NG!
Don’t miss next week’s episode of #WKNDWatchlist for the best movie recommendations! It was filmed at Peak Valley studio.
