Elijah Wood believes he’ll likely reprise his role as Frodo in the new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, which is being directed by Andy Serkis.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Elijah Wood’s recent statements suggest he’ll likely be part of the new Lord of the Rings film, joining other original actors who are expected to return.
Wood spoke about the project in a new interview with The Times UK.

Elijah Wood Hints at Frodo Return
When asked about potentially being in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Wood smiled and confirmed that there had been talk about it.
I heard some exciting news – though it wasn’t an official announcement – at a convention last August. Apparently, Ian McKellen kind of hinted that he’s coming back to play Gandalf! It’s great to hear he might be reprising the role.
There’s a strong possibility of a new movie being made. I can’t confirm anything officially just yet, but I’m very excited about the idea.
Wood mentioned that revisiting the world of Middle-earth often makes fans very passionate about the series, but he seems optimistic about where the new Lord of the Rings story is headed.
It’s natural to want to protect something you care about and hope it stays true to itself, but this story is genuinely enjoyable and exciting. It really feels like a team reuniting, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Wood Says No One Else Should Play Frodo
The actor responded to Ian McKellen’s earlier statement that he wouldn’t want another actor to take on the role of Gandalf.
Wood agreed with the sentiment when it comes to Frodo.
I was so moved when he said that! It really struck me how deeply he felt about the role of Frodo. He made it clear he couldn’t imagine anyone else taking it on while he’s still around and able to play him – and honestly, I can’t either. It’s just perfect as it is with him.
Wood also expressed his excitement about seeing the characters again, this time as a viewer rather than someone involved in their creation.
Honestly, there’s just something magical about being in the theater and seeing that hat spin around to reveal Gandalf. As a huge fan myself, I always get so hyped to see where the story’s going from there – it’s a feeling like no other!

What We Know About The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum
Andy Serkis, known for playing Gollum, is directing a new film called The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. It’s scheduled to be released on December 17, 2027, by Warner Bros.
Filming is scheduled to begin in New Zealand this July. Ian McKellen has confirmed he’s reprising his role as Gandalf, playfully mentioning he’ll be donning the wizard’s full costume – hat, beard, eyebrows, and gloves – once again.
This story is set between Bilbo’s birthday celebration and the journey to the Mines of Moria, and it centers on what Gollum was doing during that time.
The team who made the original Lord of the Rings movies – Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens – are also producing the new film.
