‘I Was So Nervous’: Angelina Jolie Reflects On Her First Day Of Singing On Set As Maria Earns Standing Ovation At Telluride Film Festival

At the Telluride festival, Angelina Jolie openly discussed her unique ability in singing. Known for her role as an opera singer in the movie Maria, inspired by Maria Callas, she bravely shared insights into her foray into vocal performance.

As reported by People magazine, Jolie received a standing ovation following the debut of her latest movie at the mentioned film festival on September 2. This occasion left her emotional, as she placed a hand over her heart while covering her mouth and thanked the audience for their applause.

The acclaimed star conversed about the new biopic during the panel for the movie at the festival and reflected on being “nervous” about singing on the initial day on the set of Maria.

She reminisced, “For seven months, I attended opera lessons, with fantastic instructors and Italian courses, along with a cooperative group who would aid me. And that morning, I was incredibly anxious, almost to the point of madness.”

The actress stated that there were not many people in the room on the first day, but then ultimately they stepped up to more crew members and more extras “up to La Scala.”  They were given four hours of time to shoot the scene at the culturally significant opera house of Milan.

Additionally, it’s said that she mentioned collaborating with the movie’s director, Pablo Larraín, and expressed her understanding that if she gave her utmost effort, Pablo would be content and find a way to make things work. She recognized that she had to give her best and try to solve the “problem,” but she was cognizant of the fact that he was a compassionate and cooperative person, which provided assistance.

The actress discussed working on emotionally intense scenes on the film set alongside her sons Maddox and Pax, stating that the character she played in this instance was particularly challenging for her, as reported by the publication.

Instead of singing in front of her sons causing tension, as it actually did, the woman by the sea explained that she chose not to display such deep sorrow before them. However, their subsequent hugs and shared tea time with her mother allowed for a more profound expression of pain on an emotional level.
