I was so excited for season two of Ted on Peacock, and it definitely lived up to the hype – Peacock even said it was their most popular original show ever! Critics and fans both seemed to love it. But sadly, it looks like we won’t be getting a third season, and it all comes down to money. Seth MacFarlane, who created the show and voices Ted, has said it’s just way too expensive to produce. It’s a bummer, but I guess that’s just how things go sometimes.
Seth MacFarlane recently told The Wrap that a third season of Ted is unlikely. While discussing the premiere of season two, he revealed there are currently no plans for another season. According to MacFarlane, both Universal and Peacock explained that the show is too costly to produce and can’t be made any more affordably. He wrote the season two finale knowing this, ending it with young Johnny, played by Max Burkholder, deciding to get in shape. This suggests that he’ll eventually transform into the muscular version of Johnny seen in the Ted movies, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg.
MacFarlane explained that creating each episode of the show is incredibly costly, comparing the amount of CGI needed to bring Ted to life to making a 22-minute *Avengersstyle movie.

Even though Seth MacFarlane understands the financial challenges of making Ted, Peacock hasn’t canceled the show yet. If it gets renewed, MacFarlane says they’ll have to get creative with the storyline – but he doesn’t think that will be too difficult. Regardless of what happens with the show, he’s continuing the story with an animated sequel series on Peacock, set after the events of Ted 2. Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth are all returning to voice their characters in the new series.
If the second season of Ted and the animated series are popular, the streaming service might decide the expensive cost – reportedly $8 to $10 million per episode – of the live-action show is worth it. It remains to be seen whether a third season of Ted will actually happen.
