As an avid fan of heartfelt narratives and hilarious comedies, I eagerly await the release of “Will and Harper” on Netflix. Having followed Will Ferrell‘s career since his SNL days, I can hardly contain my excitement to see him join forces with longtime friend Harper Steele for this road trip documentary.
Ferrell and his long-time buddy, Harper Steele, undertook a road trip for a documentary. These two actors traveled cross-country, recording their adventure on camera. Their friendship dates back to 1995 when they first met while working together on Saturday Night Live.
During a showing of the film they directed, the pair, including Josh Greenbaum, spoke with the audience about their documentary. As they talked, Steele highlighted that the movie does not focus on portraying transgender women, but instead, it’s a narrative centered around friendship and the significance of uniting during challenging times.
In her speech, Steele expressed that, speaking as a transgender woman, she doesn’t feel this portrayal reflects a typical transgender woman navigating the world – be it in conservative U.S. states or anywhere else. They lack the camera and the influence of someone like Will Ferrell.
She clarified, “We indeed recognized this point. I believe the movie isn’t solely focused on trans issues; rather, it emphasizes the importance of friends standing by each other during any transition or challenging times. In my opinion, the film excellently portrays this concept.”
During the conversation later on, Ferrell, famous for his part in Step Brothers, reminisced about Steele frequently poking fun at his changing position in Hollywood throughout their journey – mocking him as a “B-list” actor occasionally slipping into “A-list” and even “C-list” categories. He clarified, “However, once that was set aside, everyone began to question, ‘What are you two up to?’ And then we delved deeper into the topic and had meaningful conversations.”
Additionally, the friends voiced their opinions following the film screening. Steele confessed that she found the movie enjoyable, however, added, “Reaching the conclusion… it’s not a simple matter.”
Regarding Ferrell, he admitted that although he didn’t want to dismiss his friend’s emotions, he found immense pleasure in watching the movie. He confessed, “I weep each and every time. I have my tissues handy right here.” Ferrell further shared that the road trip film ranks amongst his most cherished experiences and it’s delightful to watch it with an audience.
