James Gunn Still Has an Opportunity to Bring Henry Cavill to the DCU – as the Strongest Version of Superman

As a seasoned gamer with decades of comic book universe-hopping adventures under my belt, I must say, the prospect of James Gunn’s revamped DCU has me absolutely thrilled! The idea of a multiversal DCU opens up endless possibilities and I can hardly contain my excitement.

The initial establishment of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) stemmed from Warner Bros.’ ambition to emulate the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) success, as they own the rights to DC Comics characters. Despite possessing potential, star power, and producing quality films, the DCEU was destined for disappointment even before it could fully bloom due to a series of unfortunate decisions and missteps.

Previously summoned, James Gunn decided to create a fresh narrative realm dubbed “Gods and Monsters,” as he took charge of the DCEU that was in a state of chaos. The initial major DCU film under his direction will be titled “Superman,” featuring David Corenswet in the lead role.

This point stands out due to the inclusion of Henry Cavill, previously cast as Superman in the DCEU. Despite being replaced by Gunn, many fans are hoping he’ll return to the role. We believe there could be a possibility for this if Gunn chooses to make it happen.

This article presents our speculation concerning Superman in the DC Universe (DCU) and a potential method for Gunn to re-introduce Cavill’s character. While it remains uncertain whether this will materialize, our proposal offers an aesthetically pleasing solution if the head of DCU decides to pursue it. In simpler terms, we are discussing a hypothetical scenario for the return of Henry Cavill as Superman in the DC Universe.

It’s worth noting that the DC Universe may eventually encompass multiple realities, as hinted by the upcoming Black Superman movie. This implies the potential existence of more than one Superman within the DCU. While Corenswet is set to be the primary character, there’s no rule against other versions of Superman appearing, and Cavill could certainly be among them.

It’s our belief that James Gunn might reintroduce Henry Cavill in an enhanced role, possibly portraying either the Cosmic Armor Superman or Superman One Million. The Cosmic Armor Superman isn’t literally Superman, but rather a god-like Thought Machine and the most powerful version of the character ever conceived. This could make it simpler to incorporate him into the storyline, as he wouldn’t be considered a second Superman per se, although this could also pose some challenges.

Simultaneously, Superman One Million is a genuine Superman who endured 15,000 years within the sun, gaining immense power. Introducing this character into the DCU might prove challenging due to a lack of clear explanation for his sudden emergence, but in essence, he represents an alternate version or second manifestation of Superman.
