Daryl Sabara (33) and Alexa Peña (37) Vega Spark Nostalgia in Sweet ‘Spy Kids’ 25th Anniversary Reunion Recreating Iconic Scenes

Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega, the stars of the early 2000s movie Spy Kids, recently got together to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary. Their reunion brought back lots of happy memories for fans. The actors, who played siblings Juni and Carmen Cortez, received the Star of Texas Award at the Texas Film Awards on March 5th.

The event was held at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas – a fitting location to celebrate the movie that first brought them recognition.

At the event, Sabara and PenaVega thrilled fans by recreating famous poses and spy moves from their 2001 movie. Videos quickly spread online showing the pair laughing and joking together, proving they still have a fun and close connection.

Sabara shared a sweet story about how his role in the film actually led him to meet his wife, Meghan Trainor. He explained that he first connected with her at a party when she playfully referenced ‘Spy Kids,’ and he immediately felt a connection. The audience loved hearing the story, proving how much the movie still means to people.

Daniella PenaVega recently shared memories of making the first Spy Kids movie when she was a child. She described it as a fun, playful experience, saying, “We were just kids playing dress-up and it was very special.” She was amazed to learn how much the film meant to a whole generation, and is now seeing her own children enjoy the adventures of the Cortez family.

Since starting their careers, both actors have remained active. Sabara, age 33, is now well-known as a voice actor, notably for his work on the Ben 10 series. He’s also made appearances on reality TV and frequently partners with Trainor on various creative projects.

Danielle PenaVega, age 37, is well-known for her work on Hallmark Channel and Great American Family. She often appears in movies with her husband, Carlos PenaVega, and recently released a faith-based film called Mr. Manhattan in late 2025.

Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids movies are still popular with families. The first film, released in 2001, earned almost $150 million around the world and was followed by three more movies.

Although Netflix recently created a new version of the show with a different cast, fans still consider the original to be the best. With the show’s 25th anniversary approaching, there’s talk that original stars Sabara and PenaVega might work with director Rodriguez again in the future.
