As a gamer who’s been around the block a few times, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to the music industry, especially when it comes to iconic figures like Common and Pete Rock. The release of “The Auditorium Vol. 1” is a testament to their enduring legacy and the power of collaboration.
Common and Pete Rock have previously shared a series of videos associated with their collaborative album titled “The Auditorium Vol. 1,” and they’ve recently unveiled the music video for their track “Dreamin.”
1. The video commences with Pete Rock positioned on a bustling Brooklyn street, clad entirely in red. Subsequently, vintage clips are presented, guiding the audience through various stages of Common’s professional and personal journey.
In this video, you’ll find heartwarming moments with Common, his mother Mahalia Ann Hines, his late father Lonnie Lynn, and his daughter Omoye Lynn when she was young. The footage also includes Common working in the studio alongside figures such as Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def), the late, great producer J Dilla, and Common’s late cousin Ajile Turner, who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in Brooklyn in 2009.
The video also features Queen Latifah, poet Maya Angelou (who was featured on Common’s 2011 album called “The Dreamer/The Believer“), and a picture of De La Soul’s Trugoy the Dove, who passed away in 2023 due to congestive heart issues. Dave mentioned having the same condition in the video during De La’s 2016 song titled “Royalty Capes.”
Title “The Auditorium Vol. 1” signifies the debut collaborative full-length project of Common and Pete Rock, even though they had previously worked together, as evident on Common’s 1996 track “The B***h in Yoo,” which featured a diss towards Ice Cube.
Fortunately, it seems that the collaboration between these two renowned hip-hop artists on this project isn’t their final joint effort, as per what Common mentioned in his latest interview with Forbes.
“We’re fortunate to have crossed paths at this stage in our lives, and if it’s God’s plan, we’ll keep on producing wonderful things,” the Chicago writer expressed. “There could be various aspects, like definitely more editions of Auditorium. However, I truly feel that there’s immense potential for what Pete and I can achieve together. I believe this is just the start of our continued creation.”
