Anya Taylor-Joy Channels 2005 Fashion With This Iconic Denim Heel Look

Dior’s Fall fashion show featured long, floor-sweeping denim, but Anya Taylor-Joy quickly changed the focus with her street style in Paris the next day. She took a jacket straight from the runway and gave it a fun, early 2000s vibe. Dior’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, even gave Taylor-Joy a special brocade coat – a much more memorable gift than typical event freebies! She immediately wore the coat, which has a shearling lining and a flared hem, with her everyday spring denim. While she kept the overall shape from the runway, she put her own spin on the outfit with her choice of bottoms.

Instead of the heavily embellished jeans from the runway, Anya Taylor-Joy chose a more understated look with cuffed trousers. This simple change highlighted her pointed black heels, subtly encouraging millennials to revisit this classic footwear style.

I’m seriously loving that Taylor-Joy is bringing back a look that was everywhere in the mid-2000s: rolled-up jeans with black heels! Honestly, it was impossible to avoid this combo between 2005 and 2010. I remember seeing Lauren Conrad, Katie Holmes, and Tracee Ellis Ross rocking it all the time. Tracee even wore it to a Proenza Schouler event back in 2005, rolling her jeans up so high they looked like capris! By 2008, it was a go-to for so many celebs, and then even Selena Gomez was doing it by 2013 – she always paired rolled jeans with black Christian Louboutins. It really felt like a must-do style for young stars back then, and it’s so fun to see it coming back around!

This style feels more like a nostalgic throwback than a brand new trend. A simple change – unrolling the jeans – can create a classic, effortlessly French look.

While it’s a departure from the pointed-toe flats favored by stars like Kendall Jenner, this resurgence of denim could quickly become popular. Separately, Anya Taylor-Joy continues to be a prominent actress in Hollywood, with several exciting projects coming up.

She’s reprising her role in the next Dune film, reuniting with Timothée Chalamet. She’ll also be back as Princess Peach in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie sequel.

On television, she’s developing and starring in Lucky, a highly anticipated Apple TV+ series based on the bestselling thriller novel by Marissa Stapley.
