For more than twenty years, Diane Kruger has been a well-known figure in both the fashion and film worlds. She started her career in a remarkable way: at age 15, she won a national modeling competition, Elite Model Look, in Hamburg in 1992. This victory earned her a modeling contract with Elite Model Management, as well as a Vespa scooter.
The same year, Kruger began her professional modeling career after competing in an international contest in New York hosted by Donald Trump. At just 15, she bravely moved to Paris on her own and signed with Elite Model Management. She quickly gained recognition, working with major designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, and Christian Dior. She also appeared in runway shows for Marc Jacobs, D&G, and Sonia Rykiel, and was featured on the covers of prestigious magazines like Vogue Paris, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan.
She lived in Paris, close to the Tuileries Garden, and formed a close friendship with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. They met while working on a photoshoot for Elle magazine.

Although Diane Kruger found success as a model, she wanted to become an actress. When she was 17, she tried out for a role in Luc Besson’s film, The Fifth Element, but wasn’t cast. Besson, recognizing her potential, recommended she attend the Cours Florent drama school in Paris, and she studied there for two years.
She began taking acting lessons with the encouragement of French actor Guillaume Canet, who believed she had potential. According to sources, pursuing acting felt like a natural progression from modeling, offering her more substantial work and the chance to continue traveling.
Diane Kruger began her acting career in 2002 with the TV movie The Piano Player, alongside Dennis Hopper and Christopher Lambert. She went on to appear in Mon Idole, a film directed by her then-husband, as well as Michel Vaillant (2003) and Wicker Park (2004). However, her breakthrough role came in 2004 when she played Helen of Sparta in Wolfgang Petersen’s large-scale film Troy.

The movie Troy, featuring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom, launched Diane Kruger’s career and made her a recognizable star in Hollywood. The film’s success led to roles in popular movies like National Treasure (2004), Joyeux Noël (2005), and Copying Beethoven (2006). Reviewers noted that Troy gave her significant international recognition and helped her move from being a model to a respected actress.
Diane Kruger’s acting career flourished with appearances in films like Inglourious Basterds (2009) and The Host (2013), as well as the television series The Bridge. She’s earned critical acclaim for her roles in In the Fade (2017) and The Operative (2019). In addition to acting, Kruger has participated in the film world as a jury member and president at prestigious international festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Angoulême. She’s also worked as a spokesperson for major brands including L’Oréal and Calvin Klein.

Personally, Kruger speaks three languages and splits her time between New York and Atlanta. She shares a daughter with actor Norman Reedus and still cherishes her connections to the fashion world and her friends, including the late Karl Lagerfeld.
Troy was a pivotal film for Kruger, launching her career from modeling into serious acting on a global scale. It established her as a credible actress and opened doors to leading roles in Hollywood. The movie is still considered a breakthrough performance, demonstrating her talent for large-scale and historical films.
