‘Didn’t Feel Like I…’: Demi Moore Reveals How She Felt About Chatter Around Charlie’s Angels 2 Bikini Scene

As a fervent admirer of Demi Moore’s illustrious career and unwavering spirit, I find her recent reflections on aging and body-shaming in Hollywood truly inspiring. Her courage to confront these issues head-on, especially as it pertains to the infamous bikini scene in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, is a testament to her resilience and strength.

Demi Moore is no longer hesitant to discuss her encounters with aging and body-shaming in the entertainment industry. The 61-year-old actress candidly shared her feelings about a well-known bikini scene that left her questioning her worth within the industry and her own self-image. In the 2003 film “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” Moore portrayed Madison Lee, a former Angel who concealed a troubled past. During one particular scene, her character encountered Cameron Diaz’s Natalie Cook at a beach stakeout.

In the given scene, the actress, aged 43, dons a black string bikini with intricate crocheting details.

During an interview with Interview magazine, Moore shared a conversation with Michelle Yeoh about her latest film, The Substance, directed by Coralie Fargeat. She opened up about the challenges she faced in dealing with her identity following a particular scene. She expressed, “After doing Charlie’s Angels, there was considerable discussion surrounding that scene in a swimsuit, and it became quite intense – lots of discussions about my appearance.”

Expanding on this, the actress from Indecent Proposal expressed, “I didn’t feel out of place. It was more like I experienced a sense of, ‘I’m not twenty, I’m not thirty, but I hadn’t yet reached the image they had of a mother.”

In response, Yeoh agreed with Moore’s sentiments and shared her thoughts about Hollywood: “It becomes harsh towards actresses of a certain age, as you struggle to find roles and characters that truly connect with you.”

62-year-old Oscar winner added, “Either you embody the role of a mother or you’re too old to be considered sexy by some. Moore elaborated on this idea by stating that her latest horror film explores this concept in an alternate manner. She explained, “For me, what makes this project intriguing is portraying a past ideal rather than my current self.”

In the film, “The Substance,” Moore portrays Elisabeth Sparkle, a prominent actress in the entertainment industry, who employs an innovative medication to bring Sue, her youthful counterpart, to life, with Margaret Qualley playing this role.

The film received a 9-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moore said at the press conference for the movie that the role made her get out of her comfort zone.

She went on to clarify that the movie delved deeply into themes such as growing older, societal expectations, and the unspoken pressures of conforming to an idealized female image, which many women unconsciously accept.

The Substance will hit theaters on September 20, 2024.
