Julianne Hough Reveals Heartbreaking Loss of Her Dogs: ‘The Unraveling of Absolute Safety’

As a lifestyle expert reflecting upon Julianne Hough‘s life journey, I am truly moved by her resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Her story serves as a poignant reminder that even in the darkest moments, we can find light and growth. The loss of her beloved dogs during a tumultuous period in her personal life was indeed a crushing blow, but instead of crumbling under the weight of it all, she found solace in self-discovery and transformation.

On The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Julianne Hough opened up about a challenging period in her life and revealed a heartbreaking story. She mentioned that in 2019, two of her beloved dogs were tragically taken by coyotes just after she initiated a separation from her husband Brooks Laich. This devastating loss coincided with other hardships she was experiencing at the time.

During the preparations for her upcoming fitness program KINRGY, tied to Oprah Winfrey’s tour, Hough was grappling with the concept of self-discovery and living authentically. At the same time, she found herself in a romantic relationship with a former assistant while going through a divorce from Laich. This emotional turmoil left her questioning whether the significant changes happening in her life were truly substantial, causing her to feel uncertain about their magnitude. The passing of her beloved pets added to her distress, as they were the only beings she trusted and relied upon.

On one occasion, Julianne Hough, my esteemed guest, bravely opened up about a heartbreaking episode in her life during the show. She recalled an incident in 2019 when she and her then-spouse Brooks Laich were going through a separation. Tragically, at this particularly challenging time, her beloved pets fell victim to coyote attacks. This devastating event added to the burdens she was already carrying.

She shared that her yard had never been home to coyotes before, with gates in place for protection. Initially, the unfortunate incident seemed like a breach of absolute safety. However, Hough now expresses gratitude that they experienced the encounter together. She also acknowledges feeling thankful for the fact that such incidents usually happen swiftly, and they managed to recover their lost pets’ bodies.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in the transformative power of wellness programs like KINRGY, which I was fortunate enough to share with Oprah Winfrey on our recent tour. Our journey aimed to inspire people to reconnect with their true selves and live authentically.

Julianne Hough is set to co-host Dancing with the Stars again, a role she last held seventeen years after initially dancing as a professional dancer on the show. She won seasons 4 and 5 consecutively with her partners Apolo Ohno, an Olympic gold medalist, and Hélio Castroneves, a Brazilian racer. After five seasons, she switched roles to become a guest and then permanent judge. This season, she will be stepping into the shoes of Tyra Banks as the show’s host for its thirty-second season.

Reflecting on her recent hardships, Hough observed that, upon recognizing change equals loss, she felt a deep sense of pain and was torn between making decisions that were best for her but potentially hurt others.

She shared: “Enduring any form of loss is agonizing, regardless if it’s the correct choice. At that moment, I was merely feeling the pain from a decision I believed to be right for me. Additionally, they too were in pain, which made the situation all the more excruciating.”

At the end of the interview, Hough expressed a sense of triumph but also shared, “I find myself thinking, ‘Wow, I’m without my dogs, without a partner, without money, without a credit card. I don’t even recognize these faces.’ Yet, I have never felt more secure, more stable, or more consistent. And I have never been more enveloped in love by the people around me.”

In the past three minutes, Hough praised members for their stability, security, and love, but also shared that at certain points in her life, she had lost many things and significantly altered her own life.

This year marks the 33rd cycle of Dancing With The Stars, which kicks off on September 17th. As of now, the cast hasn’t been announced, but Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough’s brother will be the judges. Tom Hough and Alfonso Ribiero will co-host the show together.
