As a lifestyle expert with a soft spot for all things Harry Potter, I must say that it’s heartwarming to see the camaraderie and support among the cast members long after the films have wrapped up. The annual cricket match organized by David Holmes, a true testament to his indomitable spirit, is a shining example of resilience and unity.
Tom Felton, also known as Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter, had a cricket game against his co-star Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) on August 27th. According to Felton’s Instagram post, Lewis emerged victorious in this friendly match by just one run!
The match was part of Holmes’—who got paralyzed working on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1—annual charity Cricket event titled the David Holmes Cricket Cup. The former stuntman took to Instagram to share details of the 15th annual charity.
The occurrence happened following his immobilization from the chest down due to an on-set explosion during the filming of the seventh Harry Potter series installment. This accident caused severe damage to his spine and put his life at risk.
For the past fifteen years, I’ve been humbled to see my loved ones come together in a heartwarming celebration that not only honors me but also raises substantial funds for charity. Over the years, we’ve likely collected hundreds of thousands of pounds for various causes, which is truly inspiring.
In November 2023, Daniel Radcliffe worked with Holmes, who was mainly his stand-in for stunts in the movies, on HBO’s documentary titled “The Boy Who Lived.” This title had a dual meaning: it was a nod to one of Harry Potter’s famous phrases and also a tribute to Holmes surviving the tragic accident.
As per Holmes’ post and a fundraising campaign for the event, this year’s match collected funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in the UK, both of which have played significant roles in Holmes’ treatment following his accident and appointed him as their ambassador since 2013. Since 2015, Felton has been associated with the children’s charity of the former hospital.
Previously, Holmes posted a picture on social media showing him with Lewis and Felton. This photo was accompanied by the news that their annual event has successfully amassed more than £100,000 for the United Kingdom’s Royal National Orthopedic Hospital over time. He frequently shares updates about the charity and occasionally posts old memories related to his accident and recuperation.
