As a devoted fan of Vicki Gunvalson, I was truly alarmed to hear about her recent health scare and stroke diagnosis. Having followed her journey on The Real Housewives of Orange County for years, it’s heart-wrenching to see such a vibrant and resilient woman face such a daunting challenge.
Vicki Gunvalson, a cast member on The Real Housewives of Orange County, discussed her harrowing experience with a potentially life-threatening infection and a health scare that initially seemed like a stroke. On an episode of My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast, she recounted the incident: during a meeting, she began speaking incoherently, suspecting it might be a stroke.
Despite feeling unwell, Gunvalson’s partner, Michael Smith, was away from home. Yet, it was his daughter, Olivia Smith, who stepped in and took Gunvalson to the hospital instead.
During an interview with the podcast host, Gunvalson shared that at first, doctors believed her symptoms were just a case of sinuses and gave her some medication before sending her home from the hospital. However, upon returning home, Smith discovered Gunvalson nearly unconscious in the bathtub. Additionally, the CEO of Coto Insurance was part of their conversation on the podcast.
Smith explained, “I picked her up from the water, placed her in a bed, and the doctor advised she needed rest. She slept for 13 to 14 hours straight. Upon waking, the TV personality seemed disoriented and couldn’t walk, so I took Gunvalson back to the hospital.”
Speaking about the diagnosis, Smith explained, “She was suffering from a severe infection, specifically sepsis, though it manifested as pneumonia. In simpler terms, when her body was battling such a massive infection, her entire system mobilized to combat it. This means that not only her brain but also other parts of her body were affected because all available resources were directed towards fighting the infection.”
The television personality expressed that after suffering a stroke, she couldn’t recall anything, and it was Olivia who escorted her to the hospital. Additionally, she praised Smith for his kindness, as he has been looking after her and ensuring she takes her medications because she often forgets when to do so.
Regarding her recuperation, Vicki Gunvalson commented, “I’m getting plenty of sleep – more than enough, actually, but I don’t have the strength to walk at the moment. It feels like it resembles a stroke, and there are times when I can’t remember the past three days clearly.” The public has expressed their well wishes for her swift recovery as she navigates this challenging phase in her life.
