As a devoted admirer of Gabrielle Union‘s illustrious career, I find myself utterly captivated by her recent musings about Isis from the timeless classic “Bring It On.” Having grown up watching this film, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia as it celebrates its 24th anniversary.
Reflecting back, the Bring It On film undeniably stirred feelings of nostalgia as it marked its 24th anniversary. Gabrielle Union, one of the original cast members, posted a query on social media, inquiring about her character Isis’ current life, inviting fans to share their thoughts.
On August 26, the star of “The Perfect Find” posted a question she’d posed earlier on her social media platform, engaging with fans while commemorating the film’s 24th anniversary. Union wrote on the site, “Oh my wordssss! I need to know about Isis. Does anyone have the scoop? Has anyone been keeping tabs on our girl? Just gossip.”
The post consisted of stills of Union, the Clovers cheer squad at East Compton High School cheer captain among others. Many fans of the classic film expanded their imagination and replied to the actress’s tweet.
Supporters brought up various careers such as a dance instructor for Beyoncé, actress, news reporter, lawyer, or an experienced district attorney.
As reported by People magazine, on August 17th, actress Kristen Dunst, a cast member from the movie, participated in the Cinespia event in Los Angeles, an occasion dedicated to honoring her. During this time, she was captured on camera performing the film’s “roll call.”
Prior to the recent occurrence, in April, she had a chat with Entertainment Tonight where she expressed a willingness to revisit the Bring It On universe. However, she stated that the return should not be overly “awkward” or “embarrassing.”
In January 2023, Union revealed to Variety that the movie’s sequel was still being made. She explained that they had been working on it for a long time, saying “we’ve been developing the sequel for ages.” The actress further clarified that the lengthy process of making films in Hollywood can sometimes seem instantaneous (five minutes) or span over several decades.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: In an interview with People magazine, the actress who starred in “Breaking In” opened up about the complexities of portraying her character Isis. Union revealed that she was given creative freedom to develop Isis from the ground up, but she felt that what she did was essentially silence her character by keeping Isis subdued and restrained.
Union expressed that while she was perceived as being a more prominent person, in reality, she wasn’t fully expressing the depth of the “discontent and damage” caused by cultural appropriation. Union admitted that she didn’t let herself feel as angry, disappointed, and frustrated as she truly should have been about the issue.
She articulated her wish for Isis to gain acceptance and for the character to embody traits necessary to be recognized as a respected “black role model.”
