We usually enjoy seeing a successful heist in the Ocean’s Eleven movies. But there’s disappointing news this time: director Lee Isaac Chung has left the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, which was set to star Margot Robbie.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery and the director of the Oscar-nominated film Minari have mutually decided to end their collaboration on the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel starring Margot Robbie. The split reportedly stems from disagreements about the film’s creative direction. Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is also involved in the project.
The separation appears to be amicable. Chung and Warner Bros. Discovery released a joint statement regarding his exit from the movie.
Lee Isaac is a remarkably talented filmmaker. His creative vision and collaborative spirit have been incredibly valuable to both Warner Bros. and LuckyChap, and we’re excited to work with him again on future films.

The movie project was first announced in 2022. Initially, Jay Roach, the director of Bombshell, was going to direct, but Chung has since taken over. Despite this change, the film is still moving forward, and the studio is already looking for a new director. They are continuing to work with a script written by Carrie Solomon, known for A Family Affair. Details about the movie, which is set in the 1960s, are scarce. It’s currently unknown if it will connect to the upcoming new Ocean’s film. George Clooney mentioned last October that Ocean’s Fourteen is expected to start filming in 2026.
Could Margot Robbie be playing Danny Ocean’s mother in the upcoming prequel? It’s a possibility, but a lot needs to fall into place first. Warner Bros. Discovery is currently facing a surprisingly difficult challenge: finding a director for the film, which is proving harder than any previous installment in the franchise.
