’90s TV Star Shares How Faith Makes Her Worry About Personal Intimacy

Candace Cameron Bure, who grew up in the spotlight as a child star, says she still feels like people are watching her, even when she’s alone. The 49-year-old actress, best known for playing D.J. Tanner on Full House, recently discussed how her religious beliefs shape her views on personal relationships.

On her podcast this Tuesday, the actress admitted she feels uncomfortable with the thought of someone – or God – watching her during intimate moments. She shared this openly while talking with Madison Prewett Troutt, a contestant from The Bachelor who is known for her strong beliefs about sexual purity.

Twenty-nine-year-old Prewett shared a unique viewpoint, describing intimacy as a form of worship that can include praying together. She explained to Bure that she believes intimacy should be a personal and meaningful experience created by and for a couple, seeing it as a gift from God within marriage.

The two women talked about how uncomfortable it can be to discuss the connection between spirituality and intimate relationships. Prewett pointed out that many people might feel anxious even hearing them talk about it so frankly, as it’s a topic rarely explored within religious communities.

Bure discussed how experiences and lessons from our youth can stay with us throughout our lives, no matter how old we get. She pointed out that certain teenage thoughts and feelings, especially those formed during high school, often remain with us.

Although she wasn’t thrilled with how something looked, the actress emphasized she’s still happy with her beliefs and the way she lives her life. She even laughed about the way a line was delivered, saying she just doesn’t like to focus on that particular image.

As a movie and pop culture fan, I found this really interesting. This actress and another parent were talking about tough conversations, and they both agreed that talking about faith and relationships can be surprisingly difficult for a lot of people. She mentioned that her friends often share similar values, and she even joked that a lot of them are like real-life versions of the ’40-Year-Old Virgin’ – prioritizing faith and waiting for the right connection. It’s funny, but also kind of relatable, seeing how central faith is to their everyday lives.

The actress is known for making career choices based on her personal beliefs. She famously ended a long-term contract with the Hallmark Channel to take on an executive role with Great American Media. In a 2022 interview, she shared that she wants to work on projects with deeper purpose and felt Great American Media shared her commitment to creating faith-based content.

Candace Cameron Bure remains a key figure at Great American Family, recently both starring in and overseeing production of the newest Ainsley McGregor Mysteries film. Titled A Case for the Watchmaker, the movie debuted in January and features Ainsley investigating an old, unsolved case centered around a valuable antique watch in her hometown.

This project comes from her own company, CandyRock Entertainment, which she started with the goal of creating wholesome, family-focused content with positive messages. Outside of acting and performing, she’s a successful author and businesswoman, and she frequently works with her daughter, Natasha Bure, on different creative projects.
