As a huge DC fan, I was so excited to finally see the first trailer for Lanterns! James Gunn and the team at HBO dropped it, and it’s our first real glimpse of the new Green Lantern series. Best of all, they’ve announced it’s hitting screens in August, which feels like a long wait, but I’m already counting down the days!
The teaser keeps things grounded, and we know it’s “mature” because of the f-bombs.
The trailer reveals that the main characters share one power ring. Aaron Pierre, who plays John Stewart, hasn’t used the ring for two months of training. Meanwhile, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, is shown flying briefly without his Green Lantern costume or the usual green energy effect.
The teaser trailer for Green Lantern notably lacks the big visual effects fans usually expect. Aside from a quick shot of Hal Jordan flying, the trailer doesn’t show any impressive ring creations or grand cosmic scenes.

Budget Concerns Surround DCU Projects
The simpler design makes sense, considering the reported budget limitations for the DC Universe.
Reports suggest that David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has been closely monitoring James Gunn’s spending as the company continues to explore a sale.
Sources say Zaslav scrapped previous DC movie plans overseen by Mike De Luca and asked James Gunn to restart the DC Universe with a focus on lower-cost actors.
Gunn himself has also previously commented about the budget limitations surrounding Supergirl.
The Lanterns trailer appearing relatively low-key visually appears to line up with that strategy.

Insiders Say The Series Expands Later
Despite the grounded teaser, insiders have still told us the Lanterns series is strong creatively.
The show is said to become more focused on science fiction as the season progresses, but that might not happen right away.
The first teaser for #Lanterns is now available! The trailer description announced it arrived sooner than expected, and the show will premiere in August. You can watch it below.
