Long Story Short: BoJack Horseman Creator Teams Up With Netflix For New Adult Animated Series

As a dedicated fan who has followed Raphael Bob-Waksberg’s extraordinary journey through the world of animation, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement mixed with anticipation. After all, it was his groundbreaking work on BoJack Horseman that introduced me to the captivating blend of humor, drama, and poignant commentary that only adult animated series can deliver.

Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the creator of Netflix’s inaugural original animated series, BoJack Horseman, is coming back to the streaming platform with a new project. This comedian and writer will lead the development of an upcoming adult animated comedy titled Long Story Short, marking ten years since BoJack Horseman debuted on Netflix and ran for six seasons until 2020.

Originating from the same creative family as BoJack, Michael Eisner’s Tornante Production House is set to bring us Long Story Short, aiming for a release date in 2025. Tornante Production House has also been instrumental in supporting ShadowMachine, recognized for its exceptional animation work on Emmy-nominated series.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the esteemed Bob-Waksberg, aged 40, who recently clinched the Critics Choice award, is coming back to oversee the show and pen the scripts, while also taking on the roles of writer and executive producer for the captivating series, Long Story Short.

In response to the situation, the creator of BoJack humorously expressed his feelings about returning to his favorite task, stating, “It’s truly exhilarating and a privilege to be back at it – writing energetic soundbites for press releases in Hollywood trade publications. They say you can’t return home, but who says so?”

In this upcoming animated series, Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen are set to serve as executive producers under Tornante Television. Meanwhile, Lisa Hanawalt, well-known for her work on BoJack and Tuca & Bertie, will take charge of the original artwork design and assume the role of supervising producer. Additionally, Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley have been appointed as co-executive producers.

Furthermore, the animation for Long Story Short will be created by ShadowMachine from their studio in Los Angeles, ensuring that viewers can look forward to entertaining caricatures that they’ll want to watch all at once.

In simpler terms, “Long Story Short” is known as a heartwarming family series that explores the peculiarities of everyday family dynamics. The tagline for the show goes, “It’s about the collective past, private jokes, healing old hurts. If you’ve ever had a parent, spouse, sibling, or child, this series is tailored just for you – and by the way, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call every now and then!”

BoJack Horseman, on the contrary, revolves around a horse with human-like traits who struggles to return to Hollywood fame following his success in ’90s sitcoms. After twenty years, BoJack’s efforts to rekindle his stardom are confronted by a harsh wake-up call as he navigates changing Hollywood dynamics and the intricacies of modern technology.

Netflix’s first adult animated comedy, BoJack Horseman, was a standout in Netflix’s animation genre, earning wide critical praise and a devoted fanbase across its four seasons. The show received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Animated Program. However, due to its frequent references to drugs, alcohol, and mature humor, it is intended only for audiences aged 18 and over.

BoJack was given voice by Will Arnett, with Aaron Paul, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Thompkins, and Margo Martindale forming the ensemble of voices that brought the series to life.

As a lifestyle expert, allow me to share that alongside my work on BoJack Horseman, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate on other captivating projects. For instance, I co-created and penned the script for Undone, an Amazon animated series, while Lisa Hanawalt’s Tuca & Bertie was another creative venture where I wore the hat of a writer. In addition to these roles, I served as Executive Producer (EP) for Tuca & Bertie, with Tornante and ShadowMachine being our trusted partners in production.

All seasons of BoJack Horseman are available to stream on Netflix, whereas Long Story Short is slated to premiere in 2025.
