One Piece has hit a major milestone! Publisher Shueisha and sales figures from Oricon confirm the manga has now sold over 600 million copies worldwide, solidifying its status as a massive global success – something fans have long recognized.
As a huge One Piece fan, I was completely blown away by what creator Eiichiro Oda did to mark this incredible milestone! He posted a video online showing himself at his desk, working late at night, and actually writing down the real secret behind the One Piece treasure. It’s the thing Luffy and every other pirate in the series has been searching for since day one, and seeing Oda put pen to paper on that was just…wow.
Once Oda finished writing everything, he put the document in a little treasure chest. Then, he locked that chest inside something that looked like a Log Pose – you know, the things sailors use to navigate! A team of divers took it from there, lowering it way down into the ocean, about 650 meters deep. It just vanished beneath the waves, and honestly, it felt like sending a secret message to the future.
The outcome was set in motion from the very beginning of the story. It was always destined to happen.

This project benefited from support from both the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP). They provided assistance with setting up and recording the event. The team intends to recover the chest later, after the series fully explains the mystery of the One Piece.
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has already written the story’s ultimate secret – what the One Piece treasure actually is – and hidden it by placing the information on a paper at the bottom of the ocean. He plans to reveal this truth when the series concludes.

The video suggests this is the first time Eiichiro Oda has ever written down how his story will end. Apparently, he’s kept the ending a secret in his head until now. This has really excited fans, especially considering the mystery surrounding the One Piece treasure has been a key part of the story ever since it started in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1997.
One Piece has become the best-selling manga series ever, with more than 600 million copies sold worldwide. While it’s hard to directly compare to a comic like Superman with its decades of history, this incredible sales number proves just how popular and enduring One Piece has become.
While it’s possible someone could attempt to find the chest now, most fans want the mystery to remain unsolved until the author decides to reveal its contents in the story.
