Zoë Kravitz Shares Blink Twice Set Talks About ‘Fear, Concerns, and Personal Experiences’ with Cast

As an ardent fan of captivating cinematic experiences, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Blink Twice since its inception. However, upon learning about the profound emotional journey that the cast and crew underwent during the filming process, my admiration for this project has reached new heights.

Experiencing the process of making a movie like Blink Twice could be tough, but it transcended ordinary work for the team; it became an emotional expedition instead. Zoë Kravitz, the director and co-writer, has revealed that the intense atmosphere of this thriller encouraged the cast to have meaningful discussions about their apprehensions, worries, and personal lives.

In this fresh thriller I had the privilege of directing and co-writing, I stepped into a unique position by assuming the director’s role as well. Naomi Ackie brings Frida to life on screen, a waitress grappling with her circumstances who finds herself in a precarious situation after crossing paths with tech titan Slater King, brilliantly played by Channing Tatum. The narrative takes an ominous turn when Frida, initially serving at an upscale event, unexpectedly finds herself aboard King’s private jet bound for his isolated island, where strange occurrences begin to unfold.

Kravitz mentioned that the cast members spent extensive time discussing various topics due to challenging scenes in the film. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, he explained that there were many nights where they would gather and discuss their feelings, expressing their apprehensions, worries, and personal stories.

Instead of just chatting informally, these talks were crucial elements in the production of this movie. Since the film’s themes are deeply emotional, Kravitz believed it was essential for everyone to experience their emotions and support each other throughout this process. The cast members held separate discussions to establish safe environments where they could freely share their opinions and feelings.

In an interview on BBC Newsnight, Ackie (who plays Frida in the movie) expressed that these discussions were beautiful, further mentioning that some of the challenging scenes in the film left her feeling hollow inside. However, with help from others, she managed to push through it. At an awards ceremony, Ackie shared about her experiences, saying, “Those moments I will always remember. The reason I chose acting as a career was for the sense of community, and now I understand that it’s the people you work with and the trust you build together that makes storytelling possible.”

Kravitz and Ackie initially didn’t know each other, but they soon formed a strong friendship during their project. Their initial bond was forged on a Zoom call, and when Ackie came to New York for the film, their friendship flourished. Looking back, Kravitz fondly remembered shared moments such as dancing in the streets, enjoying tacos together, and even hanging out at a convenience store. “I’ve got videos of us dancing in the street, eating tacos, and sipping tequila,” Kravitz said, reminiscing. “Suddenly, [Ackie] was behind the counter at the bodega. We had an amazing night. And I thought, ‘This is going to be great!'”

Viewers are likely to feel deeply connected when they see “Blink Twice” in cinemas on August 23rd, thanks to its heartfelt narrative and genuine chemistry between the cast members. The film’s powerful themes and off-screen camaraderie demonstrate the profound impact that collaborative creativity can have in forging strong relationships, making it all worthwhile.

Beyond stating that Blink Twice, Kravitz has voiced her desire to collaborate with her partner, Channing Tatum, on future ventures as well. This partnership appears to be significant not only professionally but also personally, as it blends their individual talents into a unified vision they both hold.

In “Making Blink Twice,” more than just a gripping film was being crafted; it was also a platform that encouraged the cast to express their emotions, support one another, and foster close relationships. This experience underscores the significance of prioritizing emotional well-being and unity in creating lasting bonds and cherished memories.
