The cancelled Disney+ series The Acolyte is still facing criticism, particularly after comments from the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, revealed plans to significantly change Yoda’s character if the show had continued for a second season.
On The George Lucas Talk Show, creator Leslye Headland explained that Yoda would have participated in concealing problematic behavior within the Jedi Order, potentially hinting at his own connection to the Dark Side.
When asked if Yoda would help Vernestra Rwoh keep a secret, Headland simply replied, “Yes, absolutely.”

Yoda Would Have Backed a Jedi Cover-Up
Headland implies Yoda would have sided with Vernestra Rwoh in holding Sol responsible for the deaths of several people – including Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, Jecki, and Yord – following his death at the hands of Osha, after he confessed to killing her mother.
Under the proposed storyline, Yoda would have:
He supported the idea that Sol was a Jedi who had gone against the order. He also assisted in protecting the Jedi Council from questions and investigations by the Galactic Senate, and helped conceal Qimir’s role in events after Vernestra revealed the truth.
This suggests Yoda would have prioritized safeguarding the Jedi Order, even if it required concealing certain facts.

Headland Says Yoda Has Done It Before
Headland anticipated fan backlash and addressed it directly during the interview.
She predicted Yoda would take action early on and asked fans not to criticize her in the comments, pointing out that the character has acted this way before, as seen in The Clone Wars.
Although Yoda faced many tough choices in the Star Wars stories, some believe portraying him as knowingly involved in hiding important information would drastically change how fans see his character.

The Acolyte Fallout Continues
The show The Acolyte received a lot of negative feedback during its first and only season, which led to its cancellation.
The potential storyline for Season 2 – showing Yoda helping the Jedi Council manage a political crisis – is already sparking a lot of discussion online.
Yoda is often seen as the embodiment of the Jedi’s values. Showing him involved in covering up wrongdoing – even if he thought it was for the greater good – would have been a hugely controversial decision for the Star Wars story. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.
