The new live-action Spider-Man series, Spider-Noir, coming to Prime Video, has received a TV-14 rating. This is the most mature rating any Spider-Man television show has ever received.
The new rating suggests a change in direction. Previous live-action versions of this character were generally made for families, but this one seems to be going for a more mature and gritty tone, closer to the original comics that inspired it.

TV-14 Rating Signals Darker Direction
A TV-14 rating means the show may include more adult themes, like stronger violence, serious subject matter, and complex character development that explores difficult topics.
The show’s style fits the classic film noir look. Nicolas Cage plays Spider-Noir, a dark and tough version of Peter Parker from a different Marvel universe. This character first appeared in the Spider-Man Noir comics, which were famous for their realistic, gritty feel and inspiration from 1930s crime movies.
Nicolas Cage previously provided the voice for the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse from 2018. However, this is the first time he’s actually appeared on screen as the character.
The TV-14 rating indicates Prime Video is focusing on the gritty, crime-focused origins of the character, instead of creating a typical superhero show for kids and teens.

New Promos Spotlight Villains Ahead of CCXP Mexico
The Brazilian website Omelete released a new animated promo video and character posters, offering fans a first detailed view of some of the villains who will be in the series.
The posters also reveal a group of villains joining Spider-Noir and Cat Hardy, played by Li Jun Li, promising a formidable lineup of enemies.
The villains include:
- Electro, played by Joe Massingill
- Sandman, played by Jack Huston
- Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson
- An unidentified villain portrayed by Abraham Popoola, speculated to be Hammerhead
I’m really excited about the villains they’ve chosen! Seeing Silvermane and Hammerhead makes it clear this show isn’t going to be your typical superhero story. These guys are deeply connected to organized crime in the comics, so I’m expecting a gritty, mob-focused drama, which is exactly what I want to see. It feels like we’re getting a darker, more realistic take on the Marvel universe.
The first look at promotional materials is coming before CCXP Mexico in Mexico City, which takes place from April 24th to 26th, 2026. Fans can expect to see more footage and learn additional details at the event.
Release info
The series will first launch on MGM+ in the US on May 25, 2026. Then, on May 27, 2026, it will be available worldwide on Prime Video, with all episodes released at once in over 240 countries and territories.
Spider-Noir will be released in a special way, offering fans a choice between two versions: a classic black and white edition and a fully colored version.
