Archer Aviation, that hopeful purveyor of airborne taxis, had a bit of a tumble Tuesday. Twelve percent, to be precise. The market doesn’t care for disappointment, and Archer delivered some. So it goes.
The analysts, those diligent soothsayers, predicted a loss. Twenty-four cents a share, give or take. Archer lost twenty-six. A mere two cents off, but enough to upset some folks. They did manage a paltry $300,000 in revenue, which is…something. A start, perhaps. Though, considering the billions vaporized in the pursuit of vertical flight, it’s like finding a dime in a landfill.
They lost $0.26 per share. Not ideal. Last year, it was $0.44. Progress? Maybe. It depends on how you look at it. The overall loss remained stubbornly close to $190 million. The per-share improvement wasn’t about efficiency, you see. It was arithmetic.
Archer issued more shares. Fifty-seven percent more, to be exact. Dilution, they call it. Spreading the misery around. It’s a common tactic. Makes the numbers look better, briefly. But those new shares represent a smaller piece of the pie. A smaller claim on any future profits. If there are any. So it goes.
Is Archer Worth the Risk?
Should you buy Archer Aviation stock? That’s the question, isn’t it? It depends on your faith in the future. And your tolerance for risk. They claim passenger flights, and therefore revenue, are coming this year. Most analysts, however, aren’t expecting actual profit for another five years. 2030. A long time. A lot can happen.
They’re betting on a future where everyone zips around in electric flying machines. It’s a lovely thought. But humans are messy creatures. And gravity, well, gravity is relentless. We shall see. So it goes.
