Woody Harrelson experienced an awkward moment while presenting Harrison Ford with a lifetime achievement award at the Actor Awards. His jokes didn’t initially land well with the audience at the Shrine Auditorium, leaving him with a surprisingly silent reaction.
As the presenter started speaking, he made a point of recognizing all the incredible people in the room. But things took a quick turn – he went for a really dark, almost cynical kind of humor. He actually joked that while we were all the ‘brightest stars,’ most of us wouldn’t be so lucky by the end of the night! It totally bombed, actually. You could feel the audience just… freeze. It wasn’t a laugh, that’s for sure.
Noticing the audience wasn’t responding, Harrelson quickly stepped out of his prepared role and confessed the bit wasn’t going as planned. He then attempted a different approach, jokingly suggesting the actors present were about to experience a dose of reality through their upcoming defeats, but even this didn’t get much of a reaction.

The actor finally acknowledged the quiet audience, playfully calling them a tough crowd and reminding them he’d written the show to entertain them. Once he started focusing on the guest of honor, the energy in the room began to improve.
He made everyone laugh by playfully putting himself down, joking that Ford was far more talented, even in his smallest finger, than he was. He also recounted a funny story about all the famous people Ford had considered asking to present the award – like Helen Mirren and Vice President Kamala Harris – before choosing him.
Woody Harrelson was delightfully self-deprecating, joking that he was just thrilled to even be considered amongst the potential presenters for Ford. But he ended his introduction with genuine warmth, calling Ford a true American icon and a close friend. It was a lovely moment, and the crowd clearly agreed, giving Ford a well-deserved standing ovation as he took the stage.
Woody Harrelson continues to be a busy actor in Hollywood. He recently starred in the Apple TV+ series The White House Plumbers and the comedy film Champions. He also returned as his character Merritt McKinney in the new movie Now You See Me 3, alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Dave Franco, who also reprise their roles.
Besides his movie roles, Woody Harrelson is back on stage with a new play in London’s West End. He’s also filming Last Breath, a thrilling movie based on a true story about a deep-sea diver left stranded underwater, alongside Simu Liu and Finn Cole.
Harrison Ford, who is being honored at the ceremony, is experiencing a career comeback thanks to his TV role in Shrinking, now in its third season on Apple TV+. Plus, he’s officially joined the Marvel universe as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the new Captain America: Brave New World movie.
The Life Achievement Award recognizes George Lucas’s incredible 60+ year career shaping action and adventure films. During the awards ceremony, he shared memories of his beginnings as a carpenter and how he became a worldwide figure thanks to iconic franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
