Jack Black and Paul Rudd Are In Talks For 1997 Horror Classic Anaconda Reboot; Tom Gormican To Direct Film

As a die-hard fan who has spent countless hours binge-watching and re-watching the original Anaconda, I must say, I am beyond excited for this upcoming reimagining! Jack Black and Paul Rudd are two of my all-time favorite actors, and to see them take on the roles in a new spin of this classic horror film is simply mind-blowing.

Discussions are ongoing for Jack Black and Paul Rudd to take on leading roles in a modern adaptation of the 1997 chilling movie, Anaconda. The original film featured performances by Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight.

Originally, the story centered on a National Geographic film team encountering the most lethal serpent in existence. Over time, it gained a devoted following and even spawned spin-offs within its genre.

Tom Gormican, famously recognized for directing Nicholas Cage’s film “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” will helm the upcoming project. Previously, he collaborated on the scripts for “Beverly Hills Cop 4” and its follow-up, “Axel F.”

Following reports by The Hollywood Reporter, I’m thrilled to be collaborating with my partner, Kevin Etten, on reimagining a horror classic. We aim to offer a fresh take in our script.

It seems that the tale has been revamped; it now focuses on companions experiencing midlife crises who choose to reenact their cherished film from youth, leading them into a dense jungle. There, they encounter massive serpents, brutal weather conditions, and relentless outlaws.

Based on reports, it’s possible that Jack Black will take on the role of a jaded wedding videographer, and Paul Rudd might depict an actor who fell out of grace in Hollywood following a single season on a police series. Yet, some information suggests these roles could be reassigned.

As a seasoned film industry professional who has been around long enough to remember when Columbia Pictures was at the height of its power, I find it quite intriguing that this particular project has taken so long to develop. I recall many films that were greenlit and wrapped within a year or two of conception back in my day. The fact that this one has been in the works since early 2023 speaks volumes about the level of care and attention being put into it by those involved.

Sony’s subsidiary, Columbia Pictures, has a strong motivation to revive the Anaconda series due to its initial success. The film quickly became a cult classic, earning an impressive global gross of $136 million. This led to the creation of several similar films, including one released in theaters in 2004 and two movies on the Sci-Fi Channel, in 2008 and 2009. The most recent installment, “Lake Placid vs Anaconda,” released in 2015, was a blend of horror and comedy with Yanby Butler and Robert Englund starring.

Recently, Black has provided his vocal talents for a number of animated films, such as Borderlands, Kung Fu Panda 4, and the upcoming Super Mario Bros. film. Additionally, he will appear in Warner Brothers’ forthcoming film adaptation of Minecraft.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! Paul Rudd’s latest cinematic adventure is titled “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and it’s just one of the fantastic projects he has in store. Additionally, I’ve got A24’s “Death of a Unicorn” and John Carney’s “Power Ballad” lined up on my watchlist. Simply put, Paul Rudd’s upcoming films are the stuff that dreams are made of!
