As a dedicated fan who has binge-watched every single episode of The Crown multiple times, I can confidently say that it’s not just a show, it’s an immersive journey into the heart of British royalty and history. The captivating performances, stunning cinematography, and intricate storytelling have made it more than just a TV series; it’s become a part of my life experience.

From my perspective as a lifestyle expert, although the series wrapped up after six triumphant seasons, executive producer Andy Harries doesn’t dismiss the prospect and opportunity for spin-offs in the future. During his conversation with BBC’s The Media Show, Harries sheds light on the show’s potential continuation. “It’s clear that this topic is boundless,” he shared, “We could revisit the past or move forward.”
The series boasts a well-structured six seasons with a strong, central theme, opening up many opportunities for further exploration, which Harries believes the creators may explore in future installments. Notably, Harries is the founder of Left Bank Pictures, the Sony-backed production company responsible for this acclaimed show.
He admitted to the outlet that his company was “lucky” to have gotten the rights of a show such as The Crown. “I can assure you [that deal] feels very, very good and it gives us the opportunity to think about what we can do further with The Crown at some point,” he added, noting that they landed the lucrative deal because it was made “at the beginning of Netflix’s life.”
There’s been talk that the show might expand into spin-offs, special episodes, or films. Whispers of a prequel project centered around the life of Edward VII, who reigned for ten years from 1901 to 1910, have been swirling around.
2022 saw Deadline reporting that Netflix was discussing a potential prequel with Harries’ company. Towards the end of the year, showrunner Peter Morgan informed the outlet that he wouldn’t be penning “palace” in his scripts for some time to come.
Over the course of its six-season span, The Crown has garnered 87 Emmy Award nominations and won 21 of them. This year, it’s up for multiple Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series. Imelda Staunton, who portrayed the Queen, Jonathan Pryce, who played Prince Philip, and Elizabeth Debicki, who depicted Princess Diana, are all nominated in the leading categories as well.
Apart from Lesley Manville’s compelling performance as Princess Margaret, Dominic West’s role as Prince Charles, and Claire Foy’s guest spot as a young Queen Elizabeth II, other nominees hail from this TV series as well.
